I'll admit, I'm not a horror guy. I've never liked a horror movie. Not like I was scared but just couldn't suspend my disbelief. Although lately I've had an itch to do some creepy, gory stuff. I met up with the leader of Hazzardous Material to do a set of horror inspired prints featuring girls from the group. We shook on it and I've done a few so far.
Then another light bulb lit up. What if we took those prints and developed a background story for each? With that came a new horror series!
Stories by Erin Cragg, Rachel Hebert, Tiffany Tailfeathers & Danny Deib. I'll be helping with scripting and tackling art duties. Hazzardous Material present "Dark Decadence Vol. 1"
4 creepy stories featuring an ancient egyptian queen, a vengeful witch doctor, a failed circus ringleader and a mysterious nun.
This gives an opportunity for 4 women to be first time published writers. I get to stretch my artistic muscles by going to different settings, scenarios and characters.
Now I'm a sicko in my own right. I can go to places that are pretty messed up. But, what these girls have come up with for their respective stories, make me blush and get uncomfortable. Think of those pulp horror/grindhouse comics and flicks from back in the day. That's why I made sure to put a little notice this book is meant for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY!
With there being 4 stories, I'm gonna experiment with different styles. Give each story a unique feel. The book follows character based on our female creators. All our stories are warped morality tales. Think of 'Tales from the Crypt' or 'Twilight Zone.' We're planting our flag with our own versions of classic horror tropes.
We follow "THE RING LEADER" as she introduces us to the attractions in her insane circus act. Such as the fortune teller with arcane skills, a tale about an ancient Egyptian artifact with a sinister backstory, and a search for a young girl who has a hidden power.
Each story will be drawn by myself. Each story is written by the Hazz Mat girl the character is inspired by. We have the book clocked in at at least 100 pages. Each story will have a different style and feel to it. The style will compliment each individual's story and personality.
The founder and creator of Hazzardous Material. She's always had a love of geek, horror and the dark arts. She is a fully certified Photographer in Calgary Alberta. She loves to travel, cook and watch movies. She's a hardcore sports fanatic and loves rocking out at concerts.
Rachel has been with Hazzardous Material for four years but has been modeling for about six. Originally from the States, she moved to Calgary 5 1/2 years ago. Rachel has a passion for the arts, whether it's painting or cosplay, she dabbles in it all. She loves the outdoors, especially being in the mountains. Hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter. Her biggest passion? Her corgi Hank.
She likes metal and creepy stuff and gore. She started out doing boudoir portraits and artistic nude, but it never really challenged her or fed her creativity, so she began to experiment and found herself through gore and the macabre. Not only did it allow her to create pictures she was truly proud of but it challenged her creativity. It also came with it's own challenges, she's come to realize not very many photographers are interested in shooting concepts that really step outside the box and push limits, so Tiffany started learning how to self shoot simply out of the need to create photo's that reflect her true interests, and inner demons.
Cheshi has been with Hazzardous Material for four years. She began modeling at age 16 and quickly it became a huge part of her life. She resides in Edmonton with her daughter, boyfriend and three cats. She spends most of her time at school where she is learning to become a veterinarian. You can also catch her playing horror related games on her Playstation 4.

This campaign features sweet swag from the Hazz Mat girls and exclusives only a few will be rewarded with. You can get the book itself, some artwork based on the series, photo prints of the girls, Hazz Mat swag and so much more.
If we surpass our main goal, which would be absolutley bonkers, We have a few items in mind to add to the project.
Erin has agreed a new calendar would be a great idea and it could feature some images we are creating specifically for this Kickstarter.
The Lewd art prints will be the NEW versions of the characters that will be drawn in the new year, but with a bit more... bits showing.
Along with the exclusive photo sets the girls will be working on, if we reach the $11,500 goal we will add the lewd versions we take from those sets and place them at a reward tier to be revealed later on.
The grand daddy! If we get to the $12,000 mark we will up our print run to include a limited run of the photo variant cover featuring all the girls involved in the series in their costumes.
Where's the money going?
This book is a large format Graphic Novel. The cost to print is larger than your average comic book. We have shopped around to find a printing company that can get the job done. The best option we've found are in the states. The printing and shipping of the books alone will be the bulk of the cost. We are also hoping to add a special UPC code in hopes for comic stores can stock the book and keep inventory and sell much easier. This cost can be $200 and up to produce just one of these.
Even though I'm the sole artist, there might be a need to hire someone to package the comic. Maybe do some lettering. We won't know until we get to that phase. I have a lot of projects on the go and to make it financially viable for me to get this done, some of the money will go to get the book through the finish line or to get me some assistance.
International and Overseas Postage
We want to make sure as much people as we can get involved and receive the book and rewards. Being in Canada, it's really difficult to ship out anything. We're in the process of finding a cost effective way to ship worldwide. Each physical package will have a shipping cost added on top of your pledge. If the final cost of shipping is less than what we have quoted, we'll add a little extra something to compensate you.
Thank you for coming by, checking out what we have to offer. If you got some coins to rub together please send it our way and help us get this baby made.
While you're at it please check out Hazzardous Material and all the models they have on their site.
Risks and challenges
This is a large undertaking. Even though there are 5 of us working on this book, the majority of the work falls on me. The book is still in the early layout process. The stories are done and pencil has hit paper. On top of this book I'll be working on my other creator owned books Septembryo & Escaping Falconridge. I have a schedule in place to make sure each project gets it's time and meets my deadlines.
Speaking of deadlines, one of the risks that any creative person runs into is late delivery. As a backer, there is nothing more annoying than backing a project, and waiting around to receive your product.
You're putting a lot of faith in us to deliver and we will. This is my third in total crowd funded project and I've delivered the previous two. I'm one to deliver on my promises and the girls feel the same way.
There is always things that could go wrong. Shit happens. We hope nothing crazy happens to derail our momentum, but if it does we will notify our backers and keep them in the loop. We're all pretty transparent on our social media platforms so everyone knows what we're up to.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
