WOOHOO! We did it!
Thanks! We smashed 100% so the deck is definitely going ahead. I'd like to say a massive thanks for your support. I'd give you a hug but... you know... that's a bit creepy right?
About the deck:
Sometimes when you are working on a creative project you will hit a mental block - betrayed by your brain you end up staring a blank page or empty screen thinking… now what?! Time for a Creative Solution. Shuffle the deck, take out a card and instantly you have a new approach to try out, a new angle to attack the problem from - the Creative Solutions deck is a sledgehammer that lets you smash through creative block like it was, I dunno, Ryvita?
Something you can smash pretty easily anyway…
Each card has a simple aphorism on the face of it in clear black text. Highlighted in a large bold font on each card is a single word - each word is a powerful archetype that will resonate with your problems. Love. War. Violence. Sex. So straight away you can perform a whole load of problem solving.
The deck is printed on poker sized Sure Slip stock by Ivory Graphics in the UK. It handles nicely and will feel instantly familiar in your hands. The stock is professional in look, feel and finish. The deck consists of 52 standard cards in a box in heavyweight card stock, process printed and designed to support the Creative Solutions brand.
So if you want to experiment with solving some mental challenges in your office, or if you are a freelancer looking to add something portable, practical, flexible and really high-impact to your kit then you will love the Creative Solutions deck.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
Risks and challenges
The deck itself is already designed and fully prototyped with the printers - explaining everything to them was weird, but we got through it and the physical prototype is a thing of beauty. The design is finalised, the deck is complete and the project is ready to roll on the press.
I have handled print on a LOT of projects in my ten years as a professional designer, and whilst it may be daunting for a layman to push the process through it is all in a day's work for me. Ivory Graphics are very used to printing playing cards, and I have designed a full deck in the past that has gone through them without a hitch.
If any problems *do* arise rest assured that I will keep in touch about them and do my best to get the project finished. I have always focussed on customer service for my books and previous projects and this deck is no exception.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The Creative Solutions deck is the brain-child of designer Phillip Smith. Phill has a long track record of quality commercial print, and even designing playing cards if you want to get specific. The guy's a genius, but then I would say that because I'm him writing this in a now paradoxical third person.
Kickstarter is a very popular and well established crowd-funding site that lets creators (like me) develop work without the significant financial risk that is incurred by it's manufacture, without knowing the market. Here's how it works:
Up there on the right hand side you will see the ‘rewards’, this is how you secure your deck. You click to ‘pledge’ your money, but you don’t get charged until the total amount pledged has reached, in this case, £1500. If we don’t meet that goal, you don’t get charged and the cards don’t get printed. There is NO RISK for you. If we DO meet the goal, then you pay, the cards are printed and I send them out to you as quickly as I possibly can. The whole system is designed to be super low risk. Lots. Lots and lots. The structure of the deck is such that dreaming up new ways to apply your existing knowledge is a real pleasure.
