Heating water should be reliable, efficient, effective and sustainable. Heatworks is at the forefront of this movement, offering an entirely new water heating experience that saves both water and energy while improving the comfort of our homes and the quality of our everyday lives. We were the first to bring tankless water heaters using advanced science and technology to the market and we’re getting better at it with our best model to date.
Rather than coils or traditional heating elements that rust, scale and eventually fail—our WiFi-enabled water heater uses our patented Ohmic Array Technology to heat water endlessly, on demand. And since the Model 3 uses water as the heating element only, the hot water that comes from it is purer than water from any other water heaters available today.
The MODEL 3 Water Heater uses graphite electrodes and electronic controls to increase the energy state of the water molecules. This makes them move faster. The faster they move, the more kinetic energy they have. This causes the molecules to begin to bounce off each other; that kinetic energy turns into heat. Through direct energy transfer, your water is heated instantly, within (+/-) 1 degree Fahrenheit of the temperature setpoint. We call our water heating technique, Ohmic Array Technology. You'll call it amazing.

It also lets you select and maintain your favorite temperature within one degree Fahrenheit for a shower or even if you need to limit showers to certain times during the day.

Since the beginning of time, all water heaters have come standard with one fundamental flaw: metal heating element(s) will rust, scale and eventually fail. That's because in order to heat a tank full of water, the heating element gets very hot. In some cases, up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. This causes scaling and deposits to form on the surface of the element. Over time, “hot spots” develop and eventually, it causes the unit to fail catastrophically.
To enjoy purer, instant and endless hot water with the MODEL 3, the number of units you will need to do so is based on three main factors:
You will need less if you want hot water in a location for hand washing (typically 30 or 50 A*), and more to heat water for a whole house (typically 100 A*).
* The power (amperage) setting for the MODEL 3 can be field adjusted from 30-100 A, in 5 A increments.
The average shower head is 2.0 GPM, with some very efficient ones available at 1.25 GPM. When set to full power (100 A), one MODEL 3 unit will produce an 82 degree F rise in temperature at a 2.0 GPM demand. To calculate the rise in temperature you can expect, multiply the kilowatts (volts x amps / 1000) available by the constant value 6.81. Then, divide by the flow rate.
For example, if you run the MODEL 3 at full power, use 1.5 GPM shower heads and anticipate running two showers at once, follow the steps below:
For Warm Climates
The starting temperature of groundwater in a warm climate can range 55-80 degrees F. Take your area’s groundwater temperature (For example: we’re in Charleston, so ours is 70 degrees F), add that to the number you calculated above (in our example, we calculated 55 degrees F) and the result will tell you the shower temperatures you can anticipate when two showers are running at the same time. Keep in mind that the MODEL 3 will only heat water to 120 degrees F, and that most people enjoy taking a shower with hot water at or around 105 degrees F. So, for this example, you would need to purchase one MODEL 3 unit.
For Cool Climates
The starting temperature of groundwater in a cool climate can range 35-55 degrees F. Take your area’s groundwater temperature (For example: New York is 47 degrees F), add that to the number you calculated above (55 degrees F) and the result will tell you the shower temperatures you can anticipate when two showers are running at the same time. Keep in mind that the MODEL 3 will only heat water to 120 degrees F, and that most people enjoy taking a shower with hot water at or around 105 degrees F. Therefore in this example, you would need to purchase two MODEL 3 units.

**Remember, our calculations assume the MODEL 3 is installed at maximum power, 100 A. Yours may be different. Please take the time to do all of the calculations so that the amount of hot water you need matches with the number of units you purchase.

Risks and challenges
The MODEL 3 is currently in development, and has been designed and engineered with a great focus on reliability, performance and safety. Our next steps are field-testing and UL certification. Additionally, each manufactured unit must pass a comprehensive testing protocol prior to clearance for shipping. There may be unforeseen delays in the final testing and manufacturing phase; however, we do not anticipate any significant setbacks.
