About this project
Trick out your smart watch or sport watch with WatchPops - they're good for...looking good!
WatchPops are compatible with most silicon or rubber watch bands. And, they're optimized for the Apple Watch!
They're made of anodized aluminum. You can choose between black or silver colored finish.
If you choose to back the project, rewards include 7 limited editions, plus a tier to design your own WatchPop.
Watch Pops are ready to 'pop' right into the unused holes of your watch strap. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can add $5 to your reward for a correctly sized hole punch. Now you can easily add holes to any kind of silicon strap.
Also, included in every reward tier is an e-clip that will hold your 'Pop even more firmly to the band. This is great when using the WatchPop with openings that are larger or differently shaped than the Apple Watch Sport Band's round holes.
You can design what goes on your WatchPop! Artwork, logos and even photographs will work. You'll want to keep your designs simple - it's a very small area that we're printing. When the campaign is over, we'll give you general guidelines, you send us your art asset, and we'll make it happen.
Hi, my name is Andrew and I created WatchPops!
My first iterations of this project were made with fabric snaps. They were ok, but the snaps were cheap and, even when optimized, the stack was too tall.
After I knew these had to be made of machined metal, I found a great shop in San Francisco to help me with the job. Mike and his business partner John are second generation machinists. Their shop was opened by their dads in 1962.
We first tried a 3-piece design. It was crazy.
Ultimately we settled on the current 1-piece "peg" design, one that emulates the Apple Watch Sport band closure itself.
WatchPops are printed locally with UV-cured ink that is durable and has a slight gloss finish.
For the initial production run, we've created a collection of 6 limited edition designs, dubbed The Kickstarter Black and Yellows. Each edition was designed specially for a WatchPop. If the rewards run out, we'll roll out new designs.
One of our most exciting features is the option to design your own artwork. For backers who support us at the $24 level, we'll contact each of you individually to provide specs for designs and quality-check them to ensure that your WatchPop comes out perfectly.
We're making The Kickstarter Black and Yellows and customs out of anodized aluminum. You will have a choice between the finish colors silver and black.
WatchPops are compatible with many band types, not just Apple Watch. If your watch or wearable has a silicon strap with holes similar to the Apple Watch Sport Band, there's a good chance WatchPops will fit.
We're dialing in our final prototypes and streamlining our printing process. Here's an estimated schedule:
Metal Production: early June 2015 (1-2 weeks)
Printing: mid-June 2015 (<1 week)
Shipping: mid to late June
*Custom designs may take an extra few weeks to prepare and finalize
If you read this far, you're awesome. Thanks for caring to learn about us! We're stoked to be posting our first Kickstarter and hope to ship out lots of WatchPops soon!
Risks and challenges
The metal shop we're working with is legendary. The've been around for decades. We have complete faith in their ability and attention to detail. We're working with a great local printer who has helped refine our printing process for maximum durability and precise placement.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
