A solo album from the man behind the music of Arcanta.
After three strange and beautiful Arcanta albums, I am turning a page. Releasing an album under my own name is the beginning of a new musical chapter in my life. This newly composed collection of songs will be more personal, while still striving to express something timeless and universal. As my primary instrument is my voice, it will come as no surprise that these new pieces will have an emphasis on vocals. A few key tracks are in English; there may be some Latin or Sanskrit, others will be in what I call the 'wordless language of the soul'.
The title of this collection, The Lamentations of Thomas, is inspired by Thomas Tallis' The Lamentations of Jeremiah. Indeed, there will be a choral feel throughout the album, embellished by subtle electronics and the occasional acoustic instrument. Julian West, my collaborator on Book of Mirrors (the most recent Arcanta disc) will once again lend his vision and expertise to this project.
Before an album can be released, however, it must first be recorded, and that is where Kickstarter comes into the picture. With the help of kind and generous friends and fans, I'll be able to do the following:
1.) Have my recording equipment shipped from Portland to my current home in Chicago.
2.) Purchase a new, high-quality vocal microphone, a small keyboard/sampler, cables, mic stand, and headphones.
3.) Upgrade the website I've put together for this and future projects.
4.) Pay for rehearsal/recording space and additional musicians.
With your help, The Lamentations of Thomas should be completed by the second half of next year and released shortly thereafter.
Thanks for visiting this page, and assisting me in taking this next step on my musical journey.
Here are a few tracks from the last album. Just because.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenge will be getting my collaborator Julian up here from Springfield, which is about four hours away. We may not be able to get together as often as I'd like, but we will MAKE IT WORK!
