PERFECT DISGRACE IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE.
Returning in 2012 after the sold out runs of ATTA BOY at the Wild Project and HERE Arts Center last year, we're back and better than ever.
This summer, we're bringing you not one but TWO NEW PERFECT DISGRACE PLAYS.
First, we will present A CRUCIBLE as a staged reading, a co-production with Fordham Alumni Theater Company.
A CRUCIBLE follows a Catholic high school's drama club as it sets out to stage Arthur Miller's classic. Conflicts erupt when ideas about sexuality and contemporary performance begin to influence the young performers cast in the show. The young women and men, fueled by passion for black magic and avant garde tropes, stage a coup to build a version that addresses their lives . Re-appropriating Miller, as well as Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol's diaries, John Huston's film The Misfits and other texts, A CRUCIBLE is a darkly comic play about the power and problems of performance.
A CRUCIBLE is part of Fordham Alumni Theater Company's summer festival, and is scheduled for July 26 & 27 in the Kehoe Theater on the Lincoln Center campus.
Next up is a staged reading of BUCKSHOT: A RASHOMON.
BUCKSHOT is a horror show in one act that combines the ethos of the Occupy Wall Street movement with the tabloid tragedy of Terry Thompson and his Muskigum County Wild Animal Preserve. In October 2012, Thompson set over fifty(!) wild animals free from their cages to roam the Ohio countryside, before committing suicide. Each of the animals was stalked and killed by county police, some were even stuffed as trophies. Narrated by KATHY ACKER THE BENGAL TIGER, BUCKSHOT: A RASHOMON is sure to inspire its audience to see the world with new eyes.
Both plays are ambitious - each one has a cast of nine actors (A CRUCIBLE has 23 different characters!) We've embarked on this Kickstarter campaign to ensure that we will bring both presentations to life with the kind of aggressive beauty that has become synonymous with PERFECT DISGRACE THEATER.
Please support us today and make this summer deliciously cruel!
