We are Paul & Diana Livernois, and we are excited to be here!
I love to take "long arm" photos of myself with my friends and family, but the new cell phones are almost impossible to operate with one hand. That was the reason I came up with the Grip N Stand. Originally, it was simply conceived as a way for me to grip my phone while taking these "long arm" photos, but it grew into so much more. I discovered there is a need for a product that could solve several problems in one simple, inexpensive and universal device and eliminate the need for expensive and bulky cases...
So we created the Universal Grip N Stand.
It's a little accessory that adheres to the back on any cell phone, most cases, MP3 Players and small tablets. It gives you a way to hold on to your device (GRIP it!), clip your device onto your purse or belt loop (CLIP it!) & prop it up when you want to read, listen to music, Skype or Facetime (STAND it!).
So, my little idea evolved into an inexpensive, universal 3-in-1, all in one, Grip, Clip and Stand!
No need for expensive cases- you won't DROP your phone when you have a handle on it! You won't need a bulky belt clip, just clip the Grip N Stand to your belt loop or purse strap and not only is your phone stowed away- but it's also easily in site WHILE its clipped on! Many cell phone cases have build in stands.... we have that covered too!
I started with a simple sketch... That evolved over the course of a few days to be a detailed outline of what this could be, with detailed sketched, dimensions, material requirements, cost target, etc. It was at that point we decided this really had mass appeal and could be a winner, so we found a designer and started down the path to create a working prototype and manufacturers prints for production. It all took about 60 days to get to that point, then we started talking to potential distributors and marketing companies. It has been AMAZING how many doors have opened up just as we needed them to! Nothing by accident, we believe.

As of 3/7/12 we have two manufacturers bidding for our business. One over seas (a very large and reputable firm) and one in Michigan. The initial start-up costs for the US company is more than double the overseas manufacturer ($26,000 vs $10,500), but the tooling longevity is better, making the end result a wash when it comes to the cost to produce at 50,000 units. It is our goal to have the product made in the US, but that will depend on the funds raised here.
There are minimum order quantities (MOQ) of 2000, but costs for shipping, packaging, etc... make it more economical to produce 10,000 units or more at a time.
Colors will also be offered in the near future assuming a successful Kickstarter campaign, and have MOQ of 1000. White will be the first and most obvious choice and is planned for release by late summer.
Patterns are also something we plan to develop, ie; leopard, tiger and zebra prints as well as smiley faces, skulls, alien heads, etc... Again MOQ of 1000 per, so any feedback from Kickstarters on what you would like to see in the market would be very helpful!
We have two choices for packaging- both are recommendations and affiliates with the two manufacturers we are working with. The package will have a high-end look and feel, and be able to be set on a shelf top or hung from single post racks. It will be clear so you can see the product on 3 sides, and be mounted on a mock phone... We will have the finalized quotes within days, and contracts signed to produce as soon as this launch is successfully completed.
We have several distribution channels in the works in order to get the Grip N Stand to the masses. An international cable shopping network is looking very closely at us, as is a nationally syndicated radio show that specializes in cool new products. Those have not firmed up yet, but as we get closer to launch, I am confident their interest will peek and a partnership will form.
We will be doing the usual- a website www.GripNStand.com (under construction now, ETA mid March for a soft (pre-production) launch, in order to whet some appetites...
We have Amazon in the wings and are in talks with several large cell accessory distributors and are seeking partnerships with the "big box" retailers both directly and via sales rep firms. This will all start to gel in the coming weeks.
The Grip N Stand has already been VERY well received in test markets using prototypes, so we feel very confident in taking this product to mass market!
We can't thank you enough for your support by becoming a "customer in advance" and helping us get the word out by leveraging all of our networks.
Lastly, following some of the basic principles we were raised with we plan on producing limited run quantities of special Grip N Stand colors / logos for specific charities in the near future. We will be sure to post news of that as we launch.
Again, thank you for helping us make this dream a reality! We hope you enjoy your Award (s) as much as we have enjoyed creating them :)
Risks and challenges
There are always challenges in launching a new product. This will be the second launch or our own, and in my career I have been a part of many major launches. There will always be unforeseen obstacles- but I am very used to that!
My wife and I come from an Automotive Sales Management background, where the only thing that is constant is change- and therefore we know how to adapt, overcome adversity and get the results!
We are very confident we will overcome unforeseen issues and deliver our promise on a timely basis.
We made changes to the strength of the larger ring as well as the placement of the opening ON the ring. These two changes will ensure your device stays put!
We are using a commercial grade double stick foam tape for the adhesion. It is the same material used to adhere body kits to automobiles and wings to the Space Shuttle. OK- I'm kidding about the Space Shuttle, but this stuff is STRONG and survives much abuse.
The key is to clean your device well before placing the Grip N Stand on the back. Use the alcohol wipe pad supplied and be sure to dry it thoroughly. Equally important is to press and HOLD the Grip N Stand to your device for a good 30 seconds! Let the bonding material do its magic. Then- yes, it will stay put!
This works on most cases as well. Where it won't work is on cases with jewels or other very uneven surfaces. Flat, clean surface? No problem.
