This is a story that was inspired by a direct conversation with Professor A. Charles Catania (author of the book “Learning”) who challenged me to write a kid's book about the power of positive reinforcement, which is a subject not commonly addressed in children's literature. I humbly accepted the challenge and with some feedback from Professor Catania have created a tale that I feel is rewarding, unique, and fun.
This isn’t your everyday story about a boy and his dog.
Brian is a young boy who adopts a new pet from a foster home. He preps for the pup's arrival but soon learns that animals are a lot more work than he anticipated and can be….quite naughty! Through some trial and error and a lot of patience, Brian comes to learn a valuable life lesson about the shaping of behavior (and your children will too!).
CURRENT STATUS OF THE PROJECT
The story has been written and initial artwork has been started by renowned artist Richard Normandin. The next phase depends on you!
Your support will help continue to fund the work of the artist, editor fees, printing costs, barcode fee and shipping expenses. It has been a lifelong dream to publish a children’s book and I am hopeful that we will meet this goal! Getting funded means that this powerful, positive message will be able to reach parents, children, caregivers, educators, and others.
AN ADDITIONAL INCENTIVE!
The person who makes the largest contribution to the project will be able to choose the color of Brian's shirt on the cover of the book (lets just call this positive reinforcement)! Will he be looking awesome in orange or bold in blue-it's up to you! In the event there is a tie, the winner will be selected at random from a drawing.
If this project raises $10,000 or more U.S. dollars (this allows the author and a few others who have contributed to the book to receive some compensation for time/materials already put towards this project and funding future stories), I will be donating 5% of the money raised over $10,000 (after Kickstarter fees) to a local animal rescue to help other pets like Henry find a forever home.
Risks and challenges
Every project comes with risks and challenges. I've done my research on costs and self-publishing and am aware of what I will need to get my story out there. I am confident that I have connected with a very reliable artist who is 100% on board with project goals and deadlines.
After this project has been funded and the initial batch of books are completed, I am hoping to find a publisher that will pick up a dynamic author/illustrator duo to market this book to a larger audience. Reaching the masses is always a challenge when publishing a new story and I hope that a reputable company will see the value in my work as you my cherished contributors do!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
