About this project
Who Are We?
The sculpture/ceramics class taught by Jennifer Baldwin at Dixie Heights High School in Northern, Kentucky is a co-ed group consisting of sophomores, juniors and seniors who love making art. We will be designing the pig. Modifications to the 4' 1/2" high x 4' long fiberglass structure will be made by students from the auto body shop at Patton Vocational School.
The Big Pig Gig was an outdoor public art project that artists, schools and businesses embraced a few years ago. Pigs of all designs were created and installed at various locations in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati. Proceeds from the auction of the pigs are used to hire young artists in the summer to make art through ArtWorks. So now that the World Choir Games are coming to Cincinnati (this is the first time the World Choir Games have come to the United States ever) we want to show our 'Porkopolis' pride by creating a whole new batch. You see, Cincinnati was and is a huge pork processing city, hence, PIGS!
Designing the Swine!
The criteria for creating a pig includes making the pig musical and multi-cultural (ours will have a French influence). Both of those criteria have a World Choir Games connection. We were inspired by the book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret / movie - HUGO. So naming the pig Hogo Cabernet ( A Fine Swine) was not a huge leap. The body of the pig will encase a music box and the tail will be the crank for art and music lovers to manipulate so the pig is musical. A heart shaped key in the neck of the pig will activate a series of cogs to mesmerize the viewer. Clocks will flank the pig on both sides. One clock will tell the time of Paris, France. The other clock will tell the time in Cincinnati, Ohio. The story of Hugo Cabret takes place in France and deals with clock makers, automatons and the magic of theatre. The entire pig will be gilded just like the automaton in the book.
Now All We Need Is A Pig
We have all our pigs in a row....we have a design; we have a fabricator.....now we need a pig, but pigs cost some moolah! $3500 will buy a pig, plus we need a little extra for modification supplies, paying for the processing of this Kickstarter and other materials needed for pig paraphernalia you will receive when you support our effort.
