MINIBEAST ORIGINS.............years of ingesting African field recordings, Mancini noir soundtracks, blurps n' bleeps from 60's academic embryonic moog lps, reverb drenched surfrok, demented religious childrens' songs, stately and serene motorik rhythms from the 70's germans, snarly u.s.gutter psych and feedback from my own guitar, I belched forth a couple of trippy bedroom records, with little intention of ever playing this mutant shit live, but my adopted hometown of providence was just too filled with accomplished noisemakers to avoid that.
Over the past few years, all those umm........influences[!] were ground up, mixed and baked into the live band that is Minibeast. The glaze on top is a complete disinterest in the boring confines of what is often indie/punk rock.......love of free thought............rhythmic thwack smacking atmosphere and ether.
Two complete full on trio single albums are done. Two years of playing with the likes of Wire, Permanent Makeup, Thalia Zedek, the Mesthetics, Kinski, Pere Ubu, Dead Tenants, Ghosts of Sailors at Sea, Service, Mock Identity, Bunnies, Trinary System, Cushing, Gang of 4, the Eyesores, Insect Factory, Holy Cow, Pyramid, Sunwatchers and many more luminaries and mindblowers has made us a tight little unit. The line up has been: Keith Seidel-percussives, Eric Baylies on bass, me doing guitar, samples, keys, yelling, basically anything i can get my hands on. Eric Baylies recently left [perhaps traumatized by the drug like hysteria of the live experience], and bottom monster, Neils Lawhite stepped in. That brings us up to the present. These 2 records might be on our merch table. Who knows? -- Peter Prescott
Here are some long samples of each song:
Last year, Minibeast recorded material for two albums - "Ism" Vols. 1 & 2 - at Distorted Forest studio with Jared Mann. These records will be released separately, each with distinct artwork and cover. However they are intended as a dual-force musical experience.
"Ism" Vols. 1 & 2 will be Minibeast's third and fourth albums, but they represent their first time in the studio recording as a 3-piece band. Recordings have Keith Seidel on drums, Eric Baylies on bass, and Peter Prescott on vocals, guitar, keyboard, and strange sounds.
For the turntable-less among us, everyone who pledges $25 or more will receive a free download link to these records.
Recording is complete and we just need to take it to production.
Funding for this project will help cover:
Mastering by Bob Weston, Vinyl pressing at United Pressing, T-shirts, and posters.
Risks and challenges
Since our last Kickstarter project, Minibeast's audience has grown and we're hopeful that our new listeners will allow for us to fund this expanded, 2-album project. However, it will be challenging for us to meet out $6k goal within 30 days. We're hoping that all of our listeners and many of the people who've come out to see us play live will share and help us fund this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
