To create a new way to shop that goes beyond traditional retail stores.
The current dichotomy between traditional men's and women's departments in stores is no longer relevant to so many of today's customers. Many customers like to shop in both departments because contemporary style has become more and more gender-neutral and androgynous. Greyscale Goods searches for the best styles in the market, regardless of intended department, and offers them to customers in a brand new shopping platform.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Customers of Greyscale Goods sign up with a customer profile, informing us of your size, personal style, lifestyle, career, and whatever else you may feel we should know about you, including photos. The more we know, the better we can match your style! Whether you have an upcoming major life event like a wedding, or even just a first date, we will get you outfitted appropriately. Then based on our knowledge of you, Greyscale Goods will send you a box of goods from our inventory of brands from around the world. For every Kickstarter supporter of $25 and above, the styling charge will be waived for your first 3 boxes that you order. Although we are very confident that you will love it, we want to make sure that you are satisfied with the service before we ask you to pay for it. After your first 3 boxes, we ask that you pay a $25 styling charge for each box that you request. But, guess what-that $25 goes towards the purchase that you make from that box of goods!
When you receive the box to your door, try everything on. Everything. Then go online to your profile and fill out comments for each item. Tell us why you like it or don't like it. If your items fit and you decide to to keep them, we'll charge the credit card you left us on file. If you love an item, but need a different size, we'll send you a new size until we get it just right.
Eventually, we will achieve a perfect rhythm, and the stylists at Greyscale Goods will know your style better than your girlfriend. (Tell her we say "you're welcome.")
A brand new business has so many steps to take, and each one costs money. From registering a corporation, to hiring an accountant, to designing packaging, every step of the way has a price tag. While we would love to be able to fund it all ourselves because we are so very passionate about this, that is just not possible. We need your help to fund the beginning phases of this company if you want to see this launch. Basically, its up to you to let us know how badly you want this company to exist.
At our bare bones minimum of $25,000, you are helping get this company up and running with:
- Website build
- Inventory management software
- Legal fees, Taxes, Accounting, Insurance, Licenses and selling permits
We have some top secret rewards in the works, but they will only be revealed if we reach certain goals. They include collaborations with some of your favorite brands and style icons, and we are so excited to share them with you in due time.
STRETCH GOAL 1:
$65,000 - In addition to getting a website up and running in order to support our orders, we will be able to invest in starting inventory to support 1000 customers. This will be the bulk of the cost to start, taking up more than half of our funding.
This will also cover the costs of packaging designs and supplies. Additional funds will go toward paying the team to donate every waking hour to deliver on our promises. We are already receiving lots of favors from our talented friends to get these things done more affordably, but some things just cost money, and there is no way around it!! The more that you donate, the more inventory we can start out with, and the more customers we can provide with goods. As simple as that: more money=more goods. So this is entirely in your hands, future customers: if you want this, you have to let us know by clicking those green buttons to your right! We have everyone lined up and ready to go RIGHT NOW! The team is assembled and waiting for the starting gun.
STRETCH GOAL 2:
$90,000 - will enable Greyscale Goods to work out of a workspace, instead of Sara’s living room. Also, we will bring you even more selection of brands. There are some really amazing global brands out there that we want to introduce you to, but they have higher minimums, and require a larger order than we will be able to place at our lower goal amount. More inventory means serving more customers.
STRETCH GOAL 3:
$120,000 - If we reach a stretch goal of $120,000, Greyscale Goods will partner with Kipper Clothiers to bring you an exclusive line of Ready-To-Wear suiting. Only available through Greyscale Goods, Kipper has offered to partner with us to design a limited line of jackets, trousers, and shirts in standard sizes based on their experiences with their customers. Greyscale Goods loves their products so much, that we believe they should be available to more customers than just those who live in San Francisco and want to invest in a custom suit. If you get us to $120,000 Greyscale Goods will be able to offer their suiting separates in our boxes of goods.
FURTHER STRETCH GOALS:
The planning doesn't stop here--we want to be able to offer inventory in plus sizes, and if we raise more that $120,000, we will include plus-sizes into our mix.
We have been working with our uber-talented graphic designer Alex Vega to bring you some really fun Greyscale Goods merchandise that will only be available during this Kickstarter campaign. Here's a breakdown of details about each item...
The STICKER PACK includes 4 stickers of varying sizes in some of our favorite graphics. These are ideal to stick anywhere!
The MAGNET PACK contains all of the stickers AND two magnets: WHAT'S YOUR SHADE? and our fun MAKE A GREYSCALE comic. They'll look great on your fridge or locker!
SPORT YOUR GREY - A classic black snapback cap with dark grey thread in our favorite slogan. One size.
The SPOT ON underwear pack includes one pair of American Apparel boy brief black cotton underwear with white elastic band, screen-printed with a white G logo on the front. Also included is one pair of white sport socks with 3 grey stripes and grey G logo on the outside of each calf. This style of underwear runs lower cut and very small (this model is wearing size medium), available in sizes S-XL. Socks are one size: unisex 9-11.
The I'M SO GREY underwear pack includes one pair of American Apparel men's style boxer brief in asphalt cotton and white elastic band, with white screen-printed graphic "SO GREY" on the back. Also included is one pair of white sport socks with 3 grey stripes and grey G logo on the outside of each calf. This style of underwear runs on the smaller side (this model is wearing size small), available in sizes XS-XL. Socks are one size: unisex 9-11.
GREYSCALE graphic screen printed on the Champ Sweatshirt from Alternative Apparel in eco-black: with vintage-style raglan sleeves and bound rib collar. Unisex regular fit, available in sizes S-XXL.

This LIMITED EDITION slim fit polo will only be available during this Kickstarter campaign. This shirt is made of Cotton Pique Knit in Heather Charcoal, and has plaid accents at the side vents, placket, and neckline. Available in sizes XS-XXL.

Risks and challenges
At Greyscale Goods, we consider ourselves pioneers expanding the horizons of the way we shop, and quite honestly, there are some challenges ahead as there is with exploring any new horizon. Fortunately, our combined experiences have made us professional problem solvers! We welcome the opportunity to solve any problem that may arise.
We are basing these initial funding needs on serving 1000 customers. If we find that demand exceeds this, we will need to adjust our budgets and timelines. This would be the best challenge to encounter!
We will be depending very heavily on our vendors delivering goods on time in order to fulfill our boxes of goods to send you. If our vendors are late, that will affect our timing as well. As of now, we are planning to begin shipping to our customers in February 2015, but if suppliers run late, we may have push our first shipments back to March. But don’t worry: Kickstarter backers will begin receiving rewards in the mail within 8 weeks of the campaign end date! Any delays that we may encounter will be immediately communicated to our backers and supporters.
Our team is confident that we can overcome these challenges in the true spirit of pioneerism: adapt and respond to any reasonable situation in order to meet and exceed the expectations of our supporters. We pride ourselves in providing great customer service and promise to communicate frequently and openly with you.
We are definitely considering the possibilities and options available for shipping internationally. We understand that we have a global demand and audience and want to serve as many customers as possible. It may have to be a little more expensive unfortunately, but we are going to make every effort to keep costs down. We have a lot of logistics to get into place before this can happen, so realistically international shipping may not be available right when we start. Please know that it is in the works though! Also, please note that we are shipping campaign rewards internationally, so we can at least get you one of our reward offerings if you choose to pledge to the project!
Will you be offering plus sizes? I see it as the last stretch goal, but what happens if you don't make it to that goal?
We love all shapes and sizes and we are very passionate about offering plus sizes! There is definitely a need for more brands in the market that offer a wider range of sizes and Greyscale Goods is anxious to help address this! We will be working through the first round of shipping our "boxes of goods" to figure out logistics and how to streamline the process first. Offering additional sizing options, both plus
size and xxs sizes often requires building additional vendor relationships. We are excited to build those relationships and make this happen for you, but it may just have to wait for our second season. It is going to happen eventually, we promise, but funding will determine when. If we reach that last stretch goal, we are promising that it will happen right away because we will be able to bring in a buyer who can focus on those additional relationships from the beginning!
