When we began our hunt for the next perfect spot to open up our family restaurant, there was no doubt that we wanted to be a part of the important revitalization of historical Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle, bringing our own family traditions to this vibrant neighborhood.
However, Tinello has been open for seven months now, and we are at a crossroads.
From the beginning, there have been a few unfortunate set backs. First, a partnership that went south. Now, a threat from a similarly named restaurant in NYC to cease and desist using the name Tinello or face litigation. All this has set us back financially so we are struggling to finish the build out and begin to rebrand with the new name and an even stronger vision in 2014.
We love Pioneer Square and we are very excited about all the changes taking place. People do live here and their numbers are about to grow substantially with all the new construction. It will take some time but the potential is there, and that's why we are here. Pioneers ourselves, we are planting our roots early to be ready for the harvest the future promises. Meanwhile, we have to survive. We are hoping this drive on Kickstarter will help us get to the next level.
The money is needed to help with the re-branding and to finish the build out. We will need new signs, a new website and a major marketing offensive. We have built a wonderful bar using reclaimed old fir. Now we need to plumb the bar for sinks and an ice-bin so that we can qualify for a liquor license. Finally, we need to build and plumb a coffee/service station in an unfinished corner of the restaurant.
All of these changes will help the bottom line and get us through the winter. By spring Stadium Place will bring us another 1800 residents, the new street car line will be rolling up to Capitol Hill, and, in the near future if Bertha ever decides to get back to work, the viaduct will be gone and in its place a new waterfront promenade. The future looks bright, my friends!
We would love to see Tinello become the neighborhood hangout - the locals' second home where they can meet old friends and make new ones. My customers have always been my extended family. Help me keep the family together and thriving. Let's bring Pioneer Square back to its original glory by supporting local businesses. Help give this old Italian the opportunity to keep the tradition alive.
Risks and challenges
We have started the permitting process and do not anticipate any delays. That said, you never know what the city will throw at you but whatever it takes we will comply and fully intent to have the cocktails flowing by the end of February.
We are counting on the continued growth and support of the Pioneer Square neighborhood to sustain our restaurant, something we have already seen the beginnings of in the past seven months.
