Produced entirely by student interns at a professional recording studio, Simpler Times is the debut album by Flower Petal.
The East Bay Met School and Summing Point Recording Studio present Simpler Times: an album of original music by senior Jack Skiffington (aka Flower Petal) that will be recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by student audio production interns.
WHAT IS SIMPLER TIMES?
Simpler Times is a collection of songs composed by Jack Skiffington for his senior project at the East Bay Met School. The demo songs have all been produced entirely using the music production software Ableton Live; but the album will be recorded using live instruments, mixed, and mastered using ProTools 10HD at Summing Point Recording Studios by student interns from the East Bay Met School. These interns will be learning about the entire process of recording and releasing an album by doing the work themselves under professional instruction.
Audio interns Kaysha Gomes and Matt Reynolds will be engineering and producing the album along with Jack, under instruction from Scott Rancourt, a Grammy-nominated audio engineer and owner of Summing Point. Greg Terzis will be the video intern responsible for maintaining a video blog and filming/producing a music video. He will be working with award-winning filmmaker Rocco Michaluk, and owner of Video & Vision Film / Video production company in Newport, RI. Marketing and promotions intern Devin Squatrito will be working with studio manager Craig Cameron, a professional Newport musician and promoter.
There is no school funding for Simpler Times because the project was conceived at the beginning of the school year, after the 2013-14 budget had been exhausted. The funds that we receive will go to Summing Point Recording Studio, toward the professional instruction and over 200 hours of studio time required to complete the recording, mixing, and mastering of the album, and production of the music video. Donations are NOT tax deductible.
Every Tuesday and Thursday the team meets at Summing Point, working with state-of-the-art professional audio and video production equipment and software. We will be meeting throughout the entire 2013-2014 school year, with the goal of having a fully completed album and music video for release at the end of the year.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The main challenge facing us is time. We are trying to achieve two goals here: the production and release of an album, and the education of student interns who are interested in audio production, video production, and music marketing/promo. Despite the 200+ hours of studio time, it will still be difficult to finish the project by the end of the year.
In order to overcome the obstacle of time, we plan to meet as often as necessary to complete the work. Our 200 hours in studio could easily end up closer to 300, but we will do whatever it takes to release the album and music video by the end of the year.
