Hike the Hudson Valley: Origins.
Hike the Hudson Valley was created in 2010 by Mike Todd, a guy who lives and works in the Hudson Valley. His goal was to create easily accessible trail guides written for the average hiker: pictures, maps, trail data, parking details, seasonal updates, and the occasional dad joke. He launched with 25 trail guides, and has added over 50 more since then. His love of hiking shines through in every guide, which have been accessed millions of times by both locals exploring their area and out of towners trying to find a new experience. If you've ever Googled things like "Sam's Point parking lot" or "Overlook mountain hike length," you've likely gotten the answers from Mike's site, for free.
Today, it’s time to help Mike step up his game. We are offering explorers an opportunity to help fund the continued maintenance and growth of the site, while looking cool at the same time.
How can you help?
We thought you’d never ask. We’ve laid out a number of great rewards for Hike the Hudson Valley backers, including cozy hoodies, kick-ass t-shirts designed by us (Kingston Creative) and printed by the good people of Antilogy Design. There are also stickers, and at higher levels, we’re also throwing in locally made whimsical cat & dog adult coloring books that we released last year. Any contribution is greatly appreciated, and sharing these items with you will be as much our pleasure as it is yours.
Here’s how it works.
Once you finalize your contribution (with a million virtual “thank yous” from us), we’ll get straight to work processing your rewards. We know people are rushing to get gifts for the holidays, and we want to make it as easy as possible. We are planning on shipping out everything by December 20th; if you live locally and want to be super-safe, we'll also offer pick-up dates during business hours between December 20th and 22nd at Kingston Creative headquarters in Uptown Kingston, NY (you’ll receive more details about this in your order confirmation). If you’re not so local, we’ll do our best to have your gear shipped to you in time for Christmas. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy! (The Lemon Squeeze is actually the most prominent feature on Mohonk’s “Labyrinth” trail. Hiking puns!)
Sharing is caring!
When you receive your rewards for backing Hike the Hudson Valley, we’d love to hear about it! Wear your apparel on your next hike or slap your sticker on your bumper, then send us a photo! Bring your coloring book to a local park and take some pics inspired by nature! If fellow explorers are enjoying their rewards, we’ll know we’ve done our job.

What if you can’t help out with dollars?
That’s okay! You can still contribute to our cause by keeping our trails clean. If you pick up a piece of litter on any of the trails you visit because of Hike the Hudson Valley, you can consider yourself a substantial backer. Plus, you’re more likely to find a $20 bill that way.
We just love hiking.
Of course, reaching our funding goal would be amazing and much appreciated. But more than anything, encouraging the passion of exploring the Hudson Valley and the care of its trails is what we’re really here to accomplish. Thanks a bunch for helping us achieve our goals! Happy hiking!
Note: On December 6, when the Kickstarter ends, we will send out an email survey where you can enter your shipping address and shirt preferences (size and type). Please be ready to respond quickly!
Risks and challenges
Every Kickstarter comes with the possible risk that we may not reach our funding goal. If that is the case, anyone who has contributed to backing our project will be completely refunded. No worries!
We know the holidays are a busy time for everyone. We are setting up pickup dates for local folk to come and grab their items, but we are happy to work with you. If you can't make the designated pickup dates, let us know, and we'll do everything we can to work out a plan.
