[Stretch goals at the bottom! Check 'em out!]
I believe poems work. I believe poems can carry you through your day. I believe poems can help you see the world more kindly. I believe poems can help us fall back in love with ourselves. I believe poems can get us through today and the next day.
So I'm here with poems you can carry in your pocket, put up on your wall, dry your hands with or read on your porch. Your call.
Over the past few months, poems have been flying out of me, some good, some not as good. I've been sharing one a day on Instagram as #100daysoflittlepoems. Now that the project is over, these poems want to get out in the world and make us all a little happier.
All the poems are already available in their entirety on instagram, so that's a pretty bad marketing strategy. Go read 'em, if you like! There's almost certainly an expert out there telling people to never run a kickstarter to produce something people can get for free, but I rarely meet a bad idea I don't like.
The poems are about:
- Laying on your face on the floor
- Food, not really as a metaphor
- Places (mostly Los Angeles, Scotland, and New Orleans, a totally natural trio of locations)
- Healing the mean things we say to ourselves
- Learning to see more clearly
- Ghosts and how much I want them to be real
- Getting over fear
- Living in the world every single day with more empathy
- Noticing smaller things than we used to
- Finding our way through the scary present into a better future
I am using Kickstarter as a pre-order system for a pretty straightforward zine/chapbook-type thing...
...plus I got really excited about making tiny poems on tiny cards...
...and then I got excited about cross-stitching some of them...
...and I got excited about practicing my handwriting with my nib pen's gold ink...
And now here we are.
Here we go! Since we hit our goal on day two, WE NEED STRETCHES!
$750 Stretch Goal: All poetry cards will have gold foil highlights. Because gold foil is the fanciest. Good work, team!
25 Book Pledges: I've found an awesome, creative, and experienced independent published called Displaced Snail. They're willing to work with me to design and print waaay fancier versions of this book than I could ever make--while still retaining that awesome handmade, project-of-love feel (I mean, check out this book about a cat!)
If I get 25 pledges at the $25 range or higher (in other words, 25 backers who want a book), I'll have a big enough order to work with Joe and create the chapbook of my dreams. Let's do this, y'all!
CURRENT BOOK PLEDGES: 22/25
Risks and challenges
This is a low-risk project as I kick ass at getting things done and have designed so many books before (legal texts can totally be poetic, y'all). I'm also a crack cross-stitcher if I do say so myself.
Some of the risks have already been resolved, like, what if Tara writes more than 100 poems? I accidentally already did that, so you get 101 poems for the price of 100 (it's not a bug, it's a feature!) Two of the poems are 50% the same, so I guess it's more like 100.5 poems for the price of 100 which is still a pretty good bonus.
I might...I don't know, die? I probably won't have anybody make the books if I die in the few months it takes to produce your reward, sorry.
There might be a typo but probably not, because I love proof-reading.
* It may be hard to match your poem to your outfit.
* I might get bored on poem 67 and have to drink beer to convince myself to finish the book.
* You may not own any other poetry, so you'll have to start a whole new section in your bookshelf.
* I still have to think of a good title.
