"Snail I Love You" is a book that is best suited for giving away or reading aloud to the kids that you love.
Thanks to incredible support from our backers, we've blasted through our goals and have turned our focus to getting our book out to the world and finding ways to make it a force for good in the universe.
We're now pledging to give away 5 books to libraries for every $1,000 we raise over $10,000.

Hello! We have created a children's book, Snail, I Love You. It's a nerdy lovefest written by a mom and daughter, Tevah Platt and Willa Thiel, and illustrated by a fabric artist named Becky Grover.
Between the ages of 3 and 6, Willa came up with amazing ways of expressing her love. "I love you as much as I love cheese," she'd say. Or, "I love you as endless as numbers." This book began when Tevah picked a selection of these phrases and started writing poems around them. Each is linked to an idea Willa was exploring and mastering as she got oriented here in the universe, and many of the poems subtly elaborate on scientific concepts like sound or gravity:
Note! Layout is currently underway. Pictured images show mockups and/or the work in progress.
Becky created a quilted illustration for each poem that has been photographed for the book. The pictures celebrate nature, diversity, and girls, and a snail is hidden in each one.
Mostly, this book is about love and how it can beautifully frame our experiences and infuse the way that we see the world. It is a children's book that also works as a book for grown ups. Love is for everyone.
We've finished writing and illustrating the story, and the book is being edited, laid out, and prepared for printing through Fifth Avenue Press, an incredible program of the Ann Arbor District Library. We have selected a local printer, Thomson Shore, and are planning to have books ready for distribution by fall 2018.
These hardback books will be 8.25 x 10.5 inches, Smyth sewn, full-color, and printed on 100# paper. (This book was illustrated using fabric but it is not a cloth or fabric book!)
The economics of creating and distributing a high-quality, offset full-color picture book make it super challenging for creators to break even on the cost of a small print run.
If we hit our funding goal of $2,500, we'll offset our printing cost and be able to offer the book through Amazon and traditional distributors without taking a loss.
Our stretch goal is $7,500-- this would fully cover our printing and set-up costs. If we hit that mark, we'll add some deluxe features to the printing and we will donate a portion of future profits to support diverse books, education and kids in need. If we hit the $7,500 goal, we'll also add a 1" snail pin to all backers who've pledged $25 or more.
ADD ON BOOKS: Do you want additional copies of the book? Make a pledge at the $25+ pledge level or higher, then hit the "manage your pledge" button and cover the cost of additional books in the "pledge amount" box. Just add $19.99 to your total for each additional book you'd like to add ($29.99 for international). Shipping for add-ons is included in these prices. You don't need to change your reward tier.
Tevah is a public health communicator, science blogger and former news journalist who enjoys documenting the world in every medium. It has been her dream since childhood to publish a children's book.
As a first grader Willa has made an almost daily practice of writing and illustrating her own stories. Working on this project has been satisfying, encouraging and joyful. Maybe our book will inspire other kids and families to write and be creative together?!
Becky is a fabric artist, and also a neighbor. One day, Becky offered to create a sewn version of something Willa had created, so we asked her to stitch out a note that Willa had written: "I love you more than wagon rides." This kernel of generosity led to our partnership on this project.
You can find us through our permanent website at www.snaililoveyou.com, and if you like our project, please do share it on social media!
Thank you so much for supporting our dream project!
Risks and challenges
We're certain this book will be created, and, thanks to the Ann Arbor District Library, we have support through the process and a launch party planned for November. We are accounting for the possibility of delays in the manufacturing process by making conservative delivery estimates for the rewards. If an unforeseen challenge arises, we promise full transparency and proactive communication to keep you apprised of the issue and progress addressing it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
