Jakket was inspired by my family - we all have the same white adapters, same cords and mine kept disappearing. I suspect that most of my missing chargers have been 'borrowed' by one of my family members. I spent a lot of $$$ replacing lost or borrowed chargers so, I began searching for something better than a sharpie to identify what was mine and something that would keep my cord connected to the adapter. After a long search, I couldn't find anything so I handcrafted a cover with a strap from supplies found at a local craft store - and it worked! Jakket was born and the journey began...a simple solution for common problem.
U.S. & INTERNATIONAL PATENTS PENDING. The JAKKET Project has been well thought out and we are ready to begin the next phase of our journey. JAKKET is self-funded to date with investments made in legal guidance, the patent process, and prototype design. Initially, manufacturing will done in the USA partnered with local experts.
REWARDS. Kickstarter requires product design projects to offer unique rewards at each level rather than multiples of one product. While each of our rewards are unique, we also offer you the flexibility to choose your colors and JAKKET swag options.
PRODUCT DESIGN. Several iterations of JAKKET were drafted and many prototypes made. What you see in the photos is a urethane prototype made from a silicone mold. The CAD drawings are complete and we're ready to cut the steel mold. The final product will be made of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU/TPE) which is a hybrid material - a mixture of hard plastic and soft silicone.
WEAR-ABILITY. There are many ways you can wear a JAKKET. There's the Sidewinder, the Bow Tie and the Docker, just to name a few. And, when the docker is plugged in, you can actually 'dock' your iPhone on top of it! You can adjust the length of the strap depending on where your USB port is positioned (high or low) and which side you choose to insert your adapter. JAKKET will accommodate most cord lengths. The Red JAKKET shown below on the left is a 3' lightning cable and the Orange JAKKET on the right is a 6' lightning cable.
DURABILITY. JAKKET can save you from losing your charger and it can extend the life of your lightning cable. To preserve your adapter and cord, we recommend you keep them connected with a JAKKET and loop your cable in a larger circular fashion similar to the Orange JAKKET illustrated above.
PROJECTED RETAIL. After listening to several opinions from a diverse demographic of Apple users, we project the retail price to be around $12-$13 for one JAKKET. We are also looking at offering two or more JAKKETS in a package. Backer input is highly valued, so let us know your thoughts.
COLOR OPTIONS. Identify each of your charging devices with color! We currently have nine awesome colors to cover multiple device chargers and to coordinate with your cases: Red, Black, Navy Blue, Orange, Army Green, and the 5C color series, Green, Yellow, Pink and Blue.
COMPATIBILITY. JAKKET fits the Apple 5-watt adapter and lightning cord for the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, iPad Air, iPad mini and new generation iPods. UPDATE: Also compatible with iPhone 4/4s and 12-watt (12W) adapters! International plugs are compatible with the 12W JAKKET!
GOALS. Our initial goal is the minimum amount needed to cover the cost of the steel mold and first production run. If we exceed the stretch goal, it will position us to create JAKKETS for other charging devices such as the Samsung travel charger, Moto-X, etc.
TIMING. We have prepared for every step to successfully deliver rewards to all of our AWESOME Backers. As soon as JAKKET funds, we will begin the tooling process and cut the steel mold. First samples will be approved or sent back for adjustments and once samples are approved, we will move into production followed packaging and shipping. This entire process will take approximately 10 weeks.
BACKERS ROCK! There has been so much support from friends and family and JAKKET wouldn't be here without them. Launching a new idea takes time, diligence, and gumption. We've got all three but we need to meet our goal to continue our quest. We sincerely appreciate each and every Backer and each and every pledge. Many thanks to the Kickstarter Team for providing this platform of opportunity.
Risks and challenges
We are confident we have contingency plans in place to help us through any turbulence we may encounter. Even with solid preparation, there is always a chance JAKKET could run into some difficulty and delivery could be delayed. As with many new product designs, the biggest risk is in the tooling process of the steel mold. If there's an issue with the mold or first run of the product - we will delay fulfillment to make certain JAKKET is done right and we will keep Backers posted on the progress.
Shipping your rewards successfully, to the right location, and in a timely manner is inherently a challenge. Before shipping, we will shoot you a message to verify your current address and your color choices. Regardless of any adversity we may experience, we will remain diligent and focused to fulfill our commitment to YOU.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
