About this project
The ultimate infographic and map for surf fanatics that shows you at one glance when and where it's best to surf. From Thomas from Get Wet Soon and Lana & Stefan from Marmota Maps, the creators of the ski map of the Alps.
- 108 of the most important surf regions
- 680 surf spots throughout the world
- monthly data on surfing quality
- information on tide, direction, swell and wave size for each spot
Hi, we are Thomas, Lana and Stefan.
Thomas discovered surfing long ago. Since then, he constantly travels the world looking for the best places to surf. However, searching the best places for a specific month required some research. So he came up with the idea for an infographic, that makes finding the perfect spot for any given month much easier. When he told Lana and Stefan about his idea, they were immediately thrilled and proposed adding a map. So now here are both.
Thankfully, Olivier from Low Pressure's Stormrider Guide, the definitive reference for surfing data, let us use their data. Then we tried a lot of arrangements until we reached our final design.
We decided to display 108 important surf regions based on the Stormrider Guide's assessment of the most frequented regions of the world. We covered the whole world, and if you go to a region that is not listed, there's one nearby that can act as a reference.
We also included the good and best months for surfing on the map. It allows you to easily check when is the best time for surfing at any region and greatly facilitates your travel planning.
The map and the infographic are both in English so that everyone around the world can easily understand our work.
The map will be printed in high-resolution offset printing by one of the finest printers in Germany. We have looked at some proofs and are excited to place the final order. We will print both infographic and map on 250gr matte paper and will update you on the printing during the campaign.
We will ship the map in an 875 x 10 x 10 mm cardboard tube. Each map will be protected by an additional layer of paper surrounding it. We will start shipping the map immediately after the campaign.
Each shipment will be trackable.
We have worked very hard for this map. Now we're so excited and hope you like it as much as we do.
Thank you for your help. Thank you, Ferran, Philipp, Christopher, Christian for lending your support for this project. Thank you, Jules Ahoi, for letting us use your music in the video (julesahoi.de). Thank you Toby, for constantly checking the map and being the reasonable one throughout the creation process.
And a special thank you to Subi, Christopher & Caroline, who accepted that a map can sometimes be more important than eating and didn't freak out too much.
Risks and challenges
We have been in the design business for some years now and believe we have mitigated all major risks.
We have taken steps to assure a safe and good delivery. We know how to safely ship a map to St. Petersburg and have a lot of brothers who help us in case of shipping frenzies.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
