We are Swingset Showdown, a high-energy piano-punk variety band that puts heavy emphasis on turning even the most mundane evenings into dance-parties. Our stage performance is a never-ending work-in-progress. We're full of surprises. Despite all we've done to liven up the stages of Seattle, we haven't compiled a quality, debut album for our growing fan base. It's a tragedy that will be remedied by the end of Summer.
After 2 years of gigging in the Pacific Northwest, we are prepared to record a 14 song debut album. We've done all the math and research to get the ball rolling, so now we just need the resources. With help from you, our fans, we can make something truly awesome.
We've made demo recordings in the past, but this album is going to be recorded by a third party at a professional studio. We found an engineer that likes our music and has offered us a fantastic deal. This will free us up to focus on just being the best musicians we can be. We have full confidence in our strategy and abilities. This album will be a representation of our music and personality that we can truly be proud of.
Below is a breakdown of the total estimated cost of the album. Each figure is researched. Ideally, this is where the money will go:
• 4 days of recording @ $350/day= $1400
• Piano rental= $900*
• 14 songs mastered @ $50 each= $700**
• 1000 replicated CDs with color printing on disc (3 colors)= $495
• 1000 color inserts for the jewel cases= $435
• Jewel cases -Ike is donating his massive collection to the project.
• Commissioned album cover art by Oscar (http://ogbog.net/)= $200***
Why are we asking for less than that total? The amount we are asking for is the essential costs that we can't cover on our own. All of the figures with the asterisks are omitted because, even though we would like to have them covered, they are secondary costs to getting the album finished. Of course, the best case scenario would be that we get every figure covered, and raise at least $4,130.
*Eric wants to rent a Steinway piano for the recording. Since we could potentially settle for a cheaper piano, he will cover that cost from his own savings, if we can't cover it with kickstarter money.
**The $700 we are asking for mastering would allow us to shop around and find the best master we could get for our finished product. However, the engineer that will be recording us has offered to master our record for free. That's great, but not necessarily the premium option.
***We would like to commission Oscar to make us an album cover. We have total faith in his ability to make something awesome and appropriate. If we can cover the cost of commissioning him with kickstarter money, that would be ideal, but if we fail to raise enough, the band has decided that we will split the cost out of our own pockets.
Thanks in advance for your support. Let's make this happen!
