Fan Art Friday 10-25-13!

I guess it's more like Informational Saturday, but hey guys! It's Phil here and I have a fun update for you guys. First I'd like to state that we're still broke and have no money, but soon (after Kickstarter fees) it looks like our grand total is about $29,000. Hopefully we will actually get to start using it for a Planet Defiant soon. In the meantime I would like to show you what we've been up to.

First we've been biding our time, celebrating and straight up relaxing just a bit. That does not mean we haven't been working. Our artists are still working behind the scenes on the promise of payment. Luckily we should have that soon. For now, here's the old story card backs and the new ones. Which one do you guys like better?

Old Story Card Backs:

Unnatural Forest Night.

Now here's the New Story Card Backs:

(Note: These are not final and are in progress, but we'd still like to get your feedback!)

Finally we'd like to show off our first Alien Sculpt Render! So here it is:

Alright guys, that's it! You guys are the best and we can't thank you enough for helping our dream become a reality! I hope you like this update and please give us ANY feedback you can!

Thanks for all your feedback thus far! Keep it coming, we want Planet Defiant to be all it can be!!

Definitely prefer the new card backs. And that sculpture is absolutely Awesome!!

    4. Creator Brent Kroeker on October 26, 2013

The sculpture looks amazing, and I much prefer the new card back designs.

    5. Creator Judy Krauss on October 26, 2013

I don't like the bloody images on the cards. Other than that, it doesn't matter much to me except to point out that unless the card back is completely solid (not type, border, pattern, etc.) it is extremely important to make certain that the cards are aligned and cut exactly. Otherwise, the cards will be "marked" by being able to see the differences in the space to the card edge from the illustration/pattern/logo/whatever.

About the sculpture: pretty cool, but I am wondering how s/he will be able to straighten out the arms without being poked in the shoulder and upper arm by the points of the elbow spurs!

      Red, ahead, I rhymed. (:

I love the new background card style, I think it is absolutely perfect. I don't know if you are changing the background per card (because this background is perfect for the unnatural forest, so I don't know if that was an accident or that every story card will actually get a specific back design for it), but I think everything that needs to be read and understood, can be. It is easy to see which one is night and which one is day, and which area story cards they are. The dark one is especially easy, and I still think the day one looks fine. Especially if you organize story cards by area (and not by day/night stacks), then these will work fine.

Of course, if you find a better way to show the words during the day, maybe make it glow red, go right ahead!

The new cards seem kind of a messy blur, which makes me agree the old art for clarity is better.

I like the idea for style though! Maybe if the shadows were of just a branch/few leaves instead of an entire forest canopy it would be clearer... Put some little glowing eyes on the night card? ;-) just a thought so it doesn't look solid black.

    9. Creator Ray Smith on October 26, 2013

Totally incredible mini!! These were a major influence on my backing of PD, and I am not disappointed!

As for the card backs, I greatly prefer the first/old look for its clarity. But, if you could add the shadow branch terrain effect to them for mood enhancement it would be perfect!

    10. Creator Storm Blade on October 26, 2013

Nice work indeed. Myself, i favor darker ones. Thanks to work on a so promising sci-fi boardgame.

The alien is scary, do want more...

Great to see this new FAF with a wonderful alien render ;) As for the cards' backs I'd go with the last set, personnally I really like the branches' shadows (and not so much the blood effect). Keep up your great work :)
