In its simplest form, Silly Street appears to be a super adorable board game for kids age 4+.
In fact, it is SO MUCH MORE. It is a pathway to bonding, collecting inside jokes, and to bringing more PLAY into the lives of kiddos, AND your life (yes, you, you grown-up!).
You might have seen it mentioned in the news lately. Maybe on NPR or in the New York Times. We have certainly read a bunch on the subject. Studies are showing that learning through play can have MAJOR benefits. Physical benefits, sure (that's a little obvious, let's be honest). But also social, cognitive and emotional benefits as well. Learning through play can help kids retain information better. And play helps with confidence, resilience, relationships and connections. Even adults can benefit from play!
So, we thought to ourselves...
Yes! PERFECT. So we invented Silly Street.
A lot of brain power and passion went into creating Silly Street. Research. Testing. So many sketches and crumpled papers. Late nights and so much coffee (only for the adults). But we think we are onto something here.
Let's take a little tour.
Silly Street comes with one 8-piece puzzle game board, 55 action cards, 4 wooden game pieces, 1 muslin drawstring bag to keep it organized, one instruction sheet, all in a sturdy and adorable cardboard box.
This is the game board. It might look tiny, but that's because you are looking at it on a computer screen. In real life it is FORTY INCHES LONG. That's as tall as some lucky flamingos.
The giant board is the beginning of the fun. It’s huge, which is perfect for tiny hands and moving bodies. BUT! To keep our packaging as teeny tiny as possible we made the board into an 8-piece puzzle that you can put together.
So first things first you put the board together on the floor or a big table. Then, you play.
First, select a little game piece and place it at the start. Then, one at a time starting with the youngest player and continuing around the circle, draw a card and do what the card says. Hilarity ensues.
After you have dried your tears of hysteria and given your cheeks a rest, move the appropriate amount of spaces as indicated by the card.
BUT! Stay alert. The cards are the key to everything. Some of them award you points based on an action. Some are contests, where the winner moves. SOME even allow you to grant points to another player. They are EXTREMELY silly and will keep everyone on their toes.
How to win: Work your way down Silly Street. Whoever lands on the last spot first leads the group in an epic dance party! (Where, let's be honest, EVERYONE WINS.)

Teachers will even love Silly Street as it can be useful in the classroom, teaching fun things like colors, numbers and letters. And even empathy!

Christine and I both have little boys, two of which are just entering school age (the other two have a little ways to go). So we have been reading a ton and absorbing all the information we can about turning our kids into really GOOD HUMANS who have character, confidence, creativity, kind hearts and grit. That's where we started with Silly Street. A brainstorm about how we could get some of these attributes into a game. (We love games!)
We also wanted to give something to the world that makes a positive impact...in the case of Silly Street, we have sweated each detail and made sure that we are adding value to the lives of people who play. Good things happen when you play Silly Street.
We play Silly Street in our houses regularly and our kids love it. We think the kids you know will love it too. And with your support, we can bring it to life. Risks and challenges
As with any project, there are always things that could go wrong. (click here for sound effect: sadtrombone.com)
We have stayed up lots of late nights and woken up way too early to do our homework and keep our risks at a minimum. We also have over twelve years of experience each with clients and deadlines and professional project completion.
First, we have a finished game. Done-zo! There is nothing else that needs to happen to send this baby to production. The art is final and we are happy with the game play (and so are tons of other people!) and just super excited about how it came out. So that is good.
Speaking of the happy players...We have tested the gameplay with a bunch of fun families to ensure that 1) it is totally awesome, silly fun and 2) it works, and keeps kids engaged while teaching them a thing or two (sometimes without them even realizing it! Genius!)
We have refined and made samples through our manufacturing partner oversees to ensure our high standards of excellence.
So really, if the finished inventory doesn't fall off of the ocean liner into the sea (knock on wood), this game will be printed, packaged and available to the awaiting public!
The biggest challenge for us to figure out how to get this into as many homes and schools as possible. Can you imagine a community where every kiddo has had belly laughs and connected with their family and friends each day. Hello J-O-Y overload!
From a business perspective, finances are the biggest risk. We already have a lot of interest in our game. Printing and shipping are expensive and cash flow a tricky little thing. However, that is why we are doing Kickstarter. With your help we will mitigate the financial risk of not being able to produce and meet initial demand for this awesomely fun game and brand so that it can be offered to just about anyone with a credit card.
