About

"The 4th of Zhou Dye" is an anthology of short stories, poems, and essays written in traditional Chinese (I hope the language won't stop you from pledging), and will be printed in Taiwan (I hope the location won't, either), where Zhou Dye (周代) spent most of his lifetime and wrote all his literature.

Thanks to Kickstarter supporters and backers, Zhou Dye's previous book "Dawn" was funded successfully last year. After "Dawn" (See sample 4 below) was published, I, being so encouraged, took a careful look at Zhou Dye's remaining works, of which most are short stories. What about those poems and essays that are not in a great number but are quite worth reading? Following a year-long contemplation, I have decided to put them together as an anthology since I couldn't let any of them left out. This love for Zhou Dye's literature comes naturally as I am the only son of him and my mother. And I happen to be a writer too. I understand how a deceased writer would want to see their writings unearthed, even though they couldn't have been more careless about this idea. Like my father, in his late years, he instructed me to throw away all his writings because he didn't think they were preservable. He was never someone who yearned for fame. However, I must do this to honor him, not for fame or fortune, but for a family legacy, and on a broader scale, a contribution to the world literature.

“The 4th of Zhou Dye” marks a sharp difference from “Dawn” in terms of stories Zhou Dye chose to depict. The short stories in “The 4th of Zhou Dye” are shorter in length, lighter in tone, and more diverse in subject matter (See sample 1 below). The majority and the best part of the poems is in strictly classical form, which proves the talent of Zhou Dye, considering he never got academic training in that regard (See sample 2 below). Some essays are about Zhou Dye reminiscing of the loss of life, and some are about living (See sample 3 below).

I plan to print 100 copies of "The 4th of Zhou Dye" and set $686 as the funding goal (See *Please note below). The book will have about 330 pages and cost nearly $1400 to print. So here's $686 vs. $1400. In order to publish this very last book by Zhou Dye, I need to get funded successfully on Kickstarter. In order to get funded successfully on Kickstarter, I would rather set my goal more achievable because on here it's all or nothing. So, please pledge (See *Please beware below) to make our goal achieved, otherwise I will only get $0 even if all pledges amount to $685, one dollar short.

*Please note: if the project achieves the funding goal, Kickstarter will withdraw 5% out of $686, and there will be another 3% + $0.20 service fee per pledge (Pledges under $10 have a discounted micro-pledge fee of 5% + $0.05 per pledge). So, I will not actually get $686. If the project doesn't achieve the goal, you won't get charged one penny at all.

*Please beware: when you pledge either $16, $26, or $36, there will be a postage to add on for shipment of your rewards.

Sample 1:

Sample 2:

Sample 3:

Risks and challenges

This project is fairly simple with nearly zero risks and challenges. Like Zhou Dye's two previous books, "Strings of Life" and "Dawn," "The 4th of Zhou Dye" will be printed by Elephant White, a Taiwanese publishing company that is reputed in their self-publishing services. They are precise, reliable, and on time. (http://www.elephantwhite.com.tw/ps)

The only thing I would ask you to understand is that your rewards will be shipped to you from Taiwan, so there might be unexpected delays during the shipment. However, I will do my best to prevent that from happening.
