About

“The World's Largest Collection of Autographed Drumsticks” as certified by--and entered into--The Guinness Book of World Records (2002, 2004, 2005 editions) is the life work of Peter Lavinger. It contains more than 1,400 hand-played and hand-signed Drumsticks from the greatest, most famous, infamous and influential drummers and bands over the past century.

Selections of Peter’s one-of-a-kind collection have been on display for music lovers around the world to view. In 1989 The Collection was displayed at the famed New York Hard Rock Café. From 1995 to 2002, over 500 sticks from The Collection were displayed on The Main Exhibition Level of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The exhibition is one of the most popular exhibits the museum has ever had to date!

Today Peter is dedicated to preserving his iconic drumstick collection, most of which has never before been publicly or privately exhibited.  The historical, cultural and educational significance of The Collection can only be realized once it is digitized and accessible.

VISION

This project is to raise funding to create a comprehensive digital archive of this pop culture icon.

GOALS:
  • Prioritization of materials, including sticks, letters, ephemera, etc. (based on uniqueness, historical significance, and at-risk status),
  • Inventory, cataloging and display of the collection.
  • Digitize the collection materials and create a searchable database and hosting site so the collection in its entirety can be seen for the first time ever.
  • Allow access for educational and academic purposes.
  • Pay homage/tribute to the drummers and bands who contributed to the collection and are part of our musical heritage.

Risks and challenges

The project is necessary to preserve the collection and share it with the world. Some parts of the collection are susceptible to degradation over time including loss, theft, sunlight, temperature, humidity, etc. The collection could never be duplicated and is currently not available for research, academia or otherwise. Funding is needed to Identification qualified staff and/or vendors to assist with the digitization and creation of a web-based searchable database, such as three dimensional, hi-resolution scanning of the sticks and ephemera (letters of provenance, concert tickets, etc.) and the creating of the hosting site.
