About this project
You can now capture life on the go in a fun, fast and fashionable way. Share instantly with friends, wirelessly and securely store to the cloud of your choice, and customize its look and feel according to your taste. Our goal is to allow you to get that elusive shot as quick as possible so you later don’t regret missing the magic moment – that’s what ParaShoot allows you to do. What better than an HD camera that fits right in the palm of your hand weighing less than 2 ounces.
This little HD camera does not only records video but can also take pictures. With the various mounts and clips, you can now pretty much place the ParaShoot anywhere. A clip mount lets you attach it to your clothes or belt. The magnet mount lets you attach it to metallic surfaces, like on a fridge. A car mount lets you use it on the road. A universal stand can be used in multiple ways.
Of course you can also wear it around your neck in different styles with the strap mount.
You can dress this little camera up in many different ways, with your own customs skins.
The free ParaShoot app works on all smartphone platforms. It acts as a viewfinder so you can see what you are recording. It allows the ParaShoot to work wirelessly so you can share instantly your shots with friends, store securely to the cloud, and switch between automatic recording mode and standard recording mode.
Over the past several years, we have worked hard to create a state of the art robust and flexible product. With your support, we can start manufacturing ParaShoot and delivering a high quality, unique and fun product. The funding will be allocated solely to manufacturing including:
- Production budget (Tooling costs, PCB assembly, components, batteries, modules, manufacturing packaging)
- Distribution to end users
- Certification (UL, FCC, CE)
- Quality Control
To date we have self financed all non-manufacturing steps, and will continue to do so, including: research and development, project management, product design, support and documentation, risks of production and financial risks, branding, communications, and PR.
The ParaShoot team is committed to excellence in consumer electronics manufacturing. We are comprised of industrial, electrical and computer engineers, as well as consumer product specialists and production managers. We are led by:
Matt Sandy is the creator of the ParaShoot. Matt brings a wealth of experience building new tech companies and bringing to market innovative products. He has been recognized previously for a number of unique inventions he has spearheaded.
Colin Glaum is a consumer product expert, having been director of OgilvyAction and other leading firms (Rapp Collings, Young & Rubicam). He ensures that the ParaShoot will meet and exceed expectations.
Tim Goldburt is a technology veteran. He is a pioneer/inventor with over thirty years experience in display technologies and over fifty patents. His background includes Thomas J. Watson IBM R&D Center, Philips Electronics, and R&D ventures commercializing novel developments.
First Backers - Be the first to receive the ParaShoot. Early Adopters - This is a limited reward to the first 200 Early Adopters with delivery of pre-production models in November 2013. With this reward you will be able to become involved with our team to test pre-production models and provide valuable feedback. You will receive the first ever ParaShoot (with 32G of internal storage), and explore creative possibilities before it hits the wider community. You will also receive all custom clips (belt and magnet), custom mounts (universal and car), neckstrap, your choice of color (Arctic White, Silver, Jet Black), and your choice of custom skins.
We’ve come a long way since our first development meetings, sketches, models and proof of concept prototypes. We began with the idea of a neck wearable camera that could capture both videos and photos allowing to share the footage instantly, and expanded rapidly from there. Our goal was to create a solution that would excel in not only hardware and software, but also push the envelope on style and product design. We searched for and selected the best partners, designers and production specialists.
Over the past year we have assembled a top notch global team of electronics components suppliers and manufacturers. In addition, we personally scouted, visited and established direct relations with cover plate designers and production facilities for ParaShoot’s different look and custom skins. We experimented with different shapes, sizes, and materials to perfect the application of skins on the ParaShoot.
Along the way, we ran into technical issues related to the shape of the ParaShoot. Due to the 48x30x11mm shape limitations of the original design, we were forced to split the PCB in half into a dual layer. The shape prevented from using our preferred chipset solutions (which required a single layer PCB).
After unveiling the first version of ParaShoot, we continued to solve the myriad of complex software and hardware issues. The expanded horizontal width of the ParaShoot allows the use of an advanced video processing chipset. Internally on the hardware, we upgraded to the premier video processing chipset to solidify ParaShoot's fast speed and HD wireless processing times.
We could now utilize a single eight layer board to house all the necessary modules. We kept the width of the enclosure very close to the original measurement, while actually reducing the height of the unit. We tested the units with increased battery sizes from 600 to 700mAh. Then we tested them again using the additional space to improve the field of view from the initial 65 degrees to an awesome 100 degree wide angle view.
The groove at the base of the ParaShoot enclosure allows for various clips/mounts for multiple uses. As per feedback we received, we wanted to allow ParaShoot users to have the option to not only wear it around the neck but to also use it in many places and situations. In choosing to advance the shape, upgrading to a premier video processing solution, and adding multiple use capabilities, our goal was to attract software developers to see the potential of ParaShoot for various applications. Video filtering, visual recognition, broadcasting, quad view (for future ability to connect multiple ParaShoots), time lapse photography - these are just some of the examples of applications enabled by our hardware improvements. We think we nailed it and are proud to share ParaShoot with you.
We have now lined up all the necessary manufacturing partners and suppliers in order to fulfill the demand for ParaShoot. All mold work is complete for both the ParaShoot and its set of mounts/clips. Previously we estimated that we would need to manufacture at least 2,000 units in order to reduce the costs and deliver the lowest price possible. In this phase of the project, we were able to show the manufacturers and suppliers that there is demand for the product and therefore we were able to get the costs that still keep the price at its lowest.
Upon completion of this Kickstarter, we will immediately proceed to manufacturing the first ParaShoot units. Our partners are overseas where we will be located on hand to oversee all the manufacturing steps. We have already completed the prototype stage, and therefore will be able to shorten the manufacturing cycle and deliver the units in the shortest possible time according to the schedule. There are additional minor tasks such as packaging design, logistics, quality control sub-contracting, and detailed user manual creation which will be run in parallel with the first manufacturing batch.
We will share photos and videos (shot by prototype ParaShoots of course ;) of the process. We’re excited to take this step together with you.
Safe Use and Legality
We encourage you to use your ParaShoot safely and securely. You are always responsible for what you shoot, so please observe video and photography policies as applicable in daily and commercial use. Do not violate any bans, and do not infringe on anyone's privacy or integrity. Apply care and caution to your parashooting. If you are asked to stop the use of your ParaShoot, please do so.
Risks and challenges
The manufacturing involved in the ParaShoot project is complex and spans a number of suppliers and objectives. We are confident we will deliver according to schedule to backers, which is our number one priority. In the past we have constantly met or exceeded our development and production timelines. Our job is development, production and manufacturing. We know the nature of the challenges we may encounter and how to overcome them. We do not take pledges lightly, as each pledge will come from people who believe in this project and our ability to execute. We will maintain excellent communication with backers, post updates on the project, and respond to all questions in a timely manner. Yes. You can charge the camera in real time via any external battery pack or power source via micro-usb, and it will continue operating as normal while connected and charging to the battery pack or power source.
