About this project
Based on a simple system of adding card values, Triptych is a non-arbitrary way for 2 to 5 players to assemble teams of anything (and everything) they're interested in, then compete against each other. Wreak havoc with fictional villains, empower yourself ideologically with great leaders of history, the possibilities for amusing cross-cultural interaction are limitless.
The Triptych Starter Set includes three pre-built decks (yes, deck-building is a thing) totaling 90 cards, and 12 (possibly more) six-sided dice. The three starter decks are: Heroes, Forces of Evil, and Church & State. We’re also launching with our first three expansion sets: Sci-Fantasy, History, and Literature. That’s 180 unique cards, along with rules, packaging, dice, and maybe a sticker.
In addition to over 50 cards by Alex Robinson, and several pieces of classic portraiture, Triptych has commissioned many cards from a host of celebrity artists, including: John Kovalic, Mike Dubisch, Eric Orchard, J. K. Wodward, Gene Yang, and many more.
The purpose of this Kickstarter is to sell advance copies of the game. If public interest is piqued, we will accept the solemn responsibility of blowing your minds. • $3 gets you updates, access to hi-res downloadable cards, and eventually the Triptych mobile app. • $27 gets you the starter set at the retail price and free shipping. • $47 gets you the starter set and all three expansions, 180 unique cards. • You can also get custom cards. For example, send in the name and photo of your dog, we’ll make you a custom card. • For the highest pledges, we have pages of original Triptych art by Alex Robinson, certain to become priceless collectibles.
180 cards are ready to print, we have budgets, lawyers, and big plans. We’re anticipating fulfillment of our pledges in time for the 2014 holiday season. Provided we get enough funding, there’s going to be a new deck released every three months. And what this game was conceived for – we’re already working towards licensing all of your favorite movie, TV, and comic characters.
In order to avoid seeming arbitrary when assigning values and actions to cards of well known or controversial characters, Triptych will provide democratically moderated forums to vote on new sets, new cards, and updates to old cards.
With enough funding we’ll provide more expansions, an online deckbuilder, a custom card printing service, and ultimately a fully functional mobile app.
Visit our website,
For a FREE download of our cards and rules (these materials are not final). Of course, you can only get the hi-res final versions by ordering our product, but we're confidently offering this sample as evidence of quality.
Pledge now to receive updates, including exclusive cards, access to gameplay videos, and more!
Custom Cards can be more than just sending in a picture of your pet and having us swap it onto the appropriate card. We'll also change the name to be the one you send. Why limit yourself to pets, visit out website, download the free cards, and be creative!
$40k: DICE! Everybody loves dice, and although Triptych can be played with just a few, the more the better! If we can raise $40k, you'll get 16 dice with the $27 pledge and 24 dice with the $47 pledge. That's a lot of dice. Like, even if you don't enjoy the game (impossible), you'll be set with a lifetime's worth of 6-sided dice. Oh yeah, we'll also be able to incorporate if we hit this level of funding, which is sort of important, because license mixing games like Triptych need to be taken seriously.
$45K: There's a question Nerds have been debating for over 30 years: who would win a fight between Star Wars (property of Disney) and Star Trek (Property of CBS and Paramount)? Prepare for: Star vs. Space, a 30 card expansion deck consisting entirely of parody cards from the two most important sci-fi universes of all time.
$50K: Science, another 30 card expansion deck - lets face it, nerds <3 science, and this deck will include characters from fiction and history.
$55k: TBD community elected 30 card expansion deck. Anything vs. Everything - we don't presume to know what cards you want, so we'll vote in the community forum, and let the players decide ~
$60k: An online Deck Builder at AnythingvsEverything.com Oh man, not having to do all that math when building your decks, that would be nice.
$65k: TBD community elected 30 card expansion deck. Ultimately there are going to be thousands of cards, as we say, Anything vs. Everything.
$70k: Online Custom Card Printing. Triptych is a game for the people. If the people want to make their own cards of their favorite superheroes or their grandparents, we're not going to stop them (of course, only official cards are legal at sanctioned Triptych events).
$75k: TBD community elected 30 card expansion deck. More Cards!
$80k: Marketing Tour Part I. I know, you're like, "WTF do I care about their marketing budget?" I'll tell you why you care, because the more marketing we can do, the more players there will be, the more awesome YOU will be for being an early adaptor of this game changing game :)
$85k: TBD community elected 30 card expansion deck. Did we mention more cards? there will NEVER be enough cards...
$90K Marketing Tour Part II. Recruiting more n00bs for you to defeat.
$190K The Triptych Mobile App. This is our apple pie in the sky, and holy crap will it be awesome. All Hail Triptych!
Risks and challenges
We have a nearly finished product. All of the first 180 cards have been play tested for years. We're in negotiation with printers and other vendors. We've budgeted for the lawyers, the shipping, and the incidentals. However, it's called "unexpected" because nobody expects it. Working with the vendors may be easy, it may not. If we have to send back additional rounds of proofs, it could delay our release. We would rather ship a quality product late, than rush something imperfect out the door.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
