I love reading!!! So does my son Noah. I have been reading my son stories from the time I found out I was pregnant, and even though he's only two years old now, his favorite thing in the world is to sit and cuddle with his momma, reading books. He's got LOTS of them. But since I also love to write, it has become a big dream of mine to someday read a book to him that I have written and created myself.
My daughter Mia is 9 months old and so far she only likes to eat books, but I have high hopes and a good feeling that we are raising another little bookworm. Please help us make our story-times more special by turning my dream into a reality.
The book I plan to publish will be called 'Helen May saves the day' and is following the adventures of a courageous little mouse, called Helen May, who is trying to save her home and that of her many animal friends, by teaching a human a valuable lesson. Helen May is living on farmer George's land, who is planning to sell his property to a big developing company. Since nobody wants to go and talk him out of selling, because all the animals are scared of him, the smallest creature of them all volunteers to go and face the human. It turns out farmer George is not scary at all but simply lonely, and after talking to Helen May, he realizes that he has lots of friends, right where he lives, and that he doesn't have to move.
It's a story about courage and about overcoming your fears and teaches children, that even the smallest creature or person can make a big difference in this world if they just set their mind to it. It also teaches them that sometimes, all you have to do is take a closer look at what you already have in order to realize that you're already blessed. I hope that you will get to read this story sometime very soon and hopefully love it as much as we do.
Because I would like to get my book published as soon as possible and not rely on the good graces of traditional publishers, I have decided to self publish. The money raised here will pay for the illustrations, publishing and marketing of "Helen May saves the day." I have done a lot of research on the subject and am very confident that we can make this happen within a reasonable time frame. The company I've chosen to publish my book has informed me that the whole process would take about 10-12 weeks.
By the time my Kickstarter project ends, I will begin by sending in my manuscript (provided the fundraising has been a success of course). This is going to be a real exciting time for me as I will get to work with the illustrator who will make the characters - only existing in my head thus far - come to life; and, together with a publishing team, I will be working towards my goal of getting this book released in the Summer of 2015.
I could consider cutting the costs in half by drawing my own illustrations, but we would end up with something like this and I think Helen May deserves better.
My son Noah tried making a few corrections after I was done to make this picture halfway presentable, but he gave up and told me to let the professionals handle it. I'm confident that I will be holding my first printed copy in my hands sometime in June 2015, hopefully even sooner.
I just want to give a humongous thank you to each and every one of you for helping me make this dream come true. This venture simply wouldn't be possible without your help and I appreciate the support so very much.
My hope is that this story will put a smile on the faces of children all around the globe and help make this world a little more joyful. I know how powerful a smile can be when you're in need of one, and there's nothing as bright as the smile of a child. So thanks again and I will keep you updated throughout the publishing process.
Risks and challenges
I don't think there is much of a risk. Provided I'll be able to raise the funds needed, I can promise you that this book is going to be published. The only thing I can't 100% guarantee is the exact date of release, since this process is new to me. But I promise to work hard to get this wonderfully illustrated story published as soon as possible so that you and your children can enjoy it together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
