Thank you! The audiobook of Riding to Camille is under way, thanks to your support. The best place to keep up to date on this, and all of my writing projects, is my website, http://www.marybufordhitz.com/. Again, many thanks!
I have been fascinated by the backlash from Hurricane Camille in Nelson County ever since it happened August 19th, 1969. How could 29 inches of rain fall in 5 hours, which NOAA says is close to both the physical and theoretical limit of the possible. In the heart of the county I care deeply about, lives were eclipsed and landscapes devastated in the blink of an eye. So a combination of fascination, love and a too-vivid imagination pulled me into writing a novel set during the backlash of Hurricane Camille. These characters are fictional, but what happens to them comes right out of the histories recorded at the time.
Get one, give two! This special price for all three formats of Riding to Camille is only available on Kickstarter. Get a signed copy of the paperback, plus the ebook and the audiobook. Keep one and give the others to friends! (Or, for only $30, you can receive an unsigned copy of the paperback along with the ebook and the audiobook.) The holidays are coming up (hint, hint)!
I'm thrilled to be working with professional voice over artist Rebekkah Hilgraves to produce the audiobook version of Riding to Camille. You can listen to an excerpt right here:
I am also delighted that superb local artist Page Peyton has made 12 beautiful original oil paintings available to my Kickstarter campaign.
These 12 original oils are on 4"x4"x1" birch panels, and painted this summer by Page Peyton herself. These will go on a first-come, first-choice basis - I will email you to get your pick once you have pledged.
I first came across Page's work at the Greenwood Market. Nina and David are kind enough to carry copies of Riding To Camille. I am grateful to them and their role in this book's life in many ways.
SOLD OUT I'm looking forward to this reward myself: a ride in the country and tea at the Hunt Country Store! At the $250 level we will enjoy an afternoon in the beautiful Virginia countryside together. Then Nancy at Hunt Country will be providing refreshments. We'll schedule it at a time that works for us both. Meet my feisty redhead Miss Maddie, and let's ride!
Shawnee at Dover Saddlery has been a great supporter of Riding To Camille, and I'm happy to be working with her to make some wonderful goodies available. The duffel is gone, but there are still a couple of pairs of wool riding socks and some beautiful exercise pads - practical riding gear that any rider can enjoy for years.
SOLD OUT Consider yourself invited to be my guest at my Charlottesville home! You and up to five friends are welcome at this dinner hosted by me and my husband, Fred. For $250, you and your friends will enjoy a three course meal, and a delightful reading by the author - me! All guests receive Riding To Camille in the format of their choice. Travel not included.
The biggest expense for creating an audiobook is hiring the right talent. Rebekkah Hilgraves is a professional actress and voice over artist. This represents the lion's share of the $3,000 I am aiming to raise here on Kickstarter.
Then, there's the formatting of the files so the audiobook can be delivered and sound great! Plus the costs of producing the wonderful treats here for you, like the books, paintings, experiences, and more.
If I reach my goal, when it's complete, the audiobook will join the paperback and ebook versions of Riding To Camille, now available on Amazon and other major outlets.
If I don't hit my target, I don't get a dollar, and you don't get your wonderful paintings, books, horse goodies, and such. So please preorder your copy of the Riding To Camille audiobook and share this campaign before midnight on 10/17.
