On the 21st December, 2016, I decided to embark upon the challenge of arranging, recording and releasing a traditional folk song every week for a year to form four seasonal albums in what has been titled, The Seasons Project. I have combed through dusty volumes to find bloodthirsty & romantic songs from the British Isles and delved into Scandinavian folklore to bring you songs about elves, witches, mermaids, dragons, were-foxes & shapeshifting sorcerers.
Now, after a year of constant researching, recording, re-writing, arranging, more recording, editing, social-media-ing, collaborating, and yet more recording, I can honestly say that I have never been as busy in my entire life. It has been utterly exhausting, but definitely worth it. There are now 52 carefully crafted arrangements of traditional folk songs & tunes grouped into four conceptually themed albums. All that remains is for you to enjoy it!
The Seasons project has been released online via Youtube for the past year, and now I’m really excited to present 'Songs From The Seasons' - a 14-track album containing a selection of hand picked tracks which I think you’ll really enjoy. It has been a really rough choice, but I’ve managed to condense this CD release down to a few favourites from each Season. I’m really proud of each and every one of these tracks and together they form what I’m confident is my best work to date.
The cover art is made up of the four spectacular paintings that Annie Haslam (of 70s symphonic rock band, Renaissance) painted especially for the Seasons Project. Renaissance is one of my favourite bands and it is has been a real privilege having her on board, along with the 20+ team of INCREDIBLE musicians who have worked to turn this crazy ambition into a reality!
For those who want to enjoy all 52 tracks from the Seasons Project, these are available as a high-resolution download (far superior to Youtube!) along with an archive of previously unreleased live & bootleg recordings. This means you will be able to own the complete history of the journey that me and the band have had since we started playing music together.
It's been one hell of a journey, and I would be honoured for you to join me, and enjoy listening as much as I have enjoyed creating. Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
The songs are recorded, mixed and mastered; the manufacturer is ready to go & all that remains is for people to pledge. If this project reaches its goal, I can see no reason why it will not be successfully completed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
