Hurled forwards through time by a magical portal, Brigantia - a Pagan goddess - seeks to defeat the foe who deceived her and return to the world she calls home.
Welcome! The purpose of this campaign is to raise the production and print funds (to pay for the cost of artwork, lettering and printing) of issue #2 of Brigantia, an independent comic book series by writer Chris Mole, artist Melissa Trender and letterer Aditya Bidikar.
Our goal is to create a full-colour, 36-page comic book (UK Standard size, 246x163mm) which continues the story of Brigantia, illustrated and lettered to a professional standard.
In issue #2, Brigantia is slowly getting to grips with her new life in modern Britain, but can't shake her desire to find a way back to her own time. Aided by a new friend, Anna, she searches for a portal back to the past. However, her plan is thwarted by a new and terrifying threat - the Ghost Dogs.
For a brief overview of issue #1, here's a video synopsis:
Praise for Brigantia #1:
“Celtic deities, roof top chases, desperate battles and, beneath it all, Brigantia is a story of our time - about immigration, loyalty, hope, belonging, and the insipid spectre of nationalism.”
Michael Molcher, Comics Journalist
"Brigantia is a true hero for today’s Britain. Steeped in history but with a genuine love and devotion to all people, she manages to be the relatable yet inspiring hero that few “mythology-based” superheroes succeed in being. A classic, emotive story with beautifully earthy and expressive artwork, issue #1 is the perfect first step into a world of countless possibilities.”
Hamish Steele, Eisner Award-winning creator (Deadendia, Pantheon)
"Brigantia bridges the past and present in a fun and exciting way, that really wonderfully illustrates how the more things change, the more they really stay the same. With vibrant and energetic art, Brigantia is a really enlightening read."
Joe Glass, Writer (The Pride)
“Brigantia #1 is a beautifully illustrated debut issue that offers considerable world-building... worth checking out just for the mythology lesson.”
C.K. Stewart, Newsarama
"A gorgeously illustrated time-travelling fantasy series...”
In these preview pages from the issue (script by Chris Mole, art by Melissa Trender, lettering by Aditya Bidikar), Brigantia has travelled north to the Peak District, in the shadow of Mam Tor. There, she meets Anna, an archaeologist who is working with a small team to excavate a late Iron Age settlement just above the cave that Veteris lured Brigantia into in issue #1.
Anna - 'The Archaeologist': Born in Britain to Barbadian parents, Anna was brought up on the outskirts of Manchester before moving to Sheffield to study Archaeology. Freshly graduated, she's a relaxed and carefree spirit with an innate sense of style and a passion for all things nerdy. When she first encounters Brigantia, Anna is skeptical about her divinity, having rejected her Christian upbringing and embraced atheism. However, as her connection to the Goddess grows, Anna finds herself starting to believe...
Brigantia - 'The Elevated One': A fierce and proud goddess, the strong (and sometimes overly arrogant) patron deity of the Brigantes tribe. In this issue, Brigantia continues to adapt and understand the tendencies of the modern humans she finds herself interacting with.
Veteris - 'The Snake-Bitten': Veteris is one of Brigantia's fellow deities and her divine opposite, possessing the ability to shapeshift into a number of forms. Since his defeat at the end of issue #1, Veteris has been licking his wounds and thinking of ways to exact his revenge...
Pravin - 'The Historian': Pravin is a curator at the Museum of Antiquities in South Kensington, with a particular interest in the ancient tribes of pagan Britain. He is still coming to terms with the reality of Brigantia's divine powers, but his belief in her grows by the day.
Chris Mole (writer): Chris Mole has been writing comics for a large chunk of his life, but only started making them properly in 2011. He's worked with chap-hop superstar Professor Elemental on a series of anthology comics as well as writing stories for a number of prestigious small press publications including Futurequake, Aces Weekly and the Psychedelic Journal.
Melissa Trender (artist): Melissa Trender has her background in illustration and animation. Currently working as a freelance illustrator, she’s been involved in the indie comics/small press scene for several years, producing her own self published works as well as comic collaborations for various anthologies. In the past she has illustrated comics for Wheatus and Professor Elemental as well as being the artist on the first issue of Brigantia.
Aditya Bidikar (letterer): Aditya Bidikar is a comics letterer based in India. He currently works on Isola, Motor Crush and These Savage Shores, among others.

Risks and challenges
As this is our second Kickstarter for Brigantia (issue #1 was funded successfully in November 2016, exceeding it's target) we're familiar with some of the challenges that we faced last time and will be working to mitigate them this time around.
If we achieve our target, Mel will be working on Brigantia full time from December 2018, with no other projects on the go. She will be able to give the story her full attention and make it look as good as possible. Our letterer Aditya is an experienced and accomplished professional with a track record of delivering pages that are polished and ready to print, so we don't foresee any issues at that stage of the process.
As with the last campaign, we'll be working with the notoriously reliable ComicsPrintingUK to produce the books; they have great experience of working to tight deadlines and will ensure that the issue looks perfect.
We will keep backers updated at every step of the campaign through this campaign and through our social media, so you will always know how much progress we're making and whether any issues or problems have arisen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
