Beginning production, Shipping estimates
Hey Orrery Lamp backer!
Here is your long overdue progress report on everything Orrery Lamp.
Since the campaign wrapped in late September, I've received help from a friend to locate all the LA vendors necessary to manufacture 150 units (table + floor lamps combined). Not surprisingly, it's taken longer than we had anticipated (each vendor has their own unique schedule / cost), but we've found them, we've contracted them, and they are beginning production on your lamps this week.
What this translates to, sadly, is a missed opportunity to get you all your lamps for the holidays. I'm truly sorry about that. According to my friend and product manager, Shawn, we are likely to ship in late February / early March 2018 (just in time for the equinox).
One of the first things Shawn helped Eddy and I with was a professional AutoCAD rendering / model of our lamps. These renderings were used to help us translate our specific requirements to our various vendors. Here are a few select screenshots:
One design detail I'd like to mention now has to do with material of the blue floor lamp base. Several people have asked what it was made of (brass? steel? wood?), and after some discussion we've decided to ship all floor lamps with a walnut base. This will keep things consistent both aesthetically as well as procedurally. I'm very hopeful that those of you who backed the blue floor lamps won't mind this design change -- I consider it an improvement, to be sure.
Lastly, I will ship Calibration Prints to those who backed them in late January 2018. Perhaps by then I can use the excess drool from my 5 month old son's cheeks to seal the envelopes (this is a Dad joke, of which Kickstarter allots 1 per post).
Thank you again for supporting this project -- I can't wait to ship your Orrery Lamp wares early next year.
