Help LA sketch group Kill Bosby make the next 6-episode season of the hilarious sketch comedy web series "Watch Immediately."
Kill Bosby absolutely loves making comedy. We all have a dream to work in comedy for a living, and we work incredibly hard on Watch Immediately in order to showcase our talents, grow as writers and performers, and get ourselves out there. To us, it’s not about money at all.
But of course, to everyone with a product or service to offer, it is about money. Our first 6-episode season was funded entirely out of pocket, and we did everything we could to keep costs as low as possible, but we're ready to take our web series to the next level.
That’s why we’ve taken to Kickstarter. With our own funds running low, we’re counting on you to help us make 6 more episodes, and to make them better than ever.
While we’ve received some incredibly positive feedback about our first season, the two biggest criticisms were “you need better sound,” and “you need better lighting.” That shows us that we’re on the right track, and with just a tiny bit more financial legroom, we can make our production value as high as the quality of our content, and produce something amazing.
If we reach our $6,000 goal, we will first invest in a light kit, better sound equipment like lavalier mics and a high-quality boom, and some minor hardware like an extra camera lens and a simple dolly. Luckily, we have knowledgeable friends and colleagues who can help us get the most for our buck in these areas by going DIY wherever possible.
Then, we will use the rest of the money to rent locations and costumes, and to pay for craft services on sets (bagels mostly). A lot of people don’t realize how hard it can be to get permission to shoot somewhere like a restaurant, school, or office building. That’s especially true in Los Angeles, where the pervasiveness of the entertainment industry means that the city can charge thousands of dollars for permits, and businesses can charge hundreds of dollars an hour for use of their locations.
We have been lucky enough to find some very amenable business owners in the past, who were willing to work with our tiny budget because they like what we do. With the money we raise, we will continue to seek out these types of relationships, but our options will expand greatly.
Any remaining funds will be used to advertise, expand our fan base, increase our subscribers and views, and work towards becoming a financially solvent, self-sustaining web series through Youtube ad revenue (if we can really knock this one out of the park, then we won’t need to Kickstart season 3!).
If you haven’t seen our first season, visit youtube.com/killbosbycomedy to catch up. Any little bit you can give will go a long way towards making something truly special. Thanks!!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
One of the greatest things about our group, is that everyone involved is here because they want to be. No one is getting paid, so no one is doing it for the money. As a result, we are able to create high-quality content, made out of a shared love for sketch comedy.
The fact that our team members are all working "pro bono," however, has also created it's own unique set of challenges. Because we can't compensate anyone financially, paying gigs often take precedence. Sometimes the perfect actor for the role can't get out of his shift at Starbucks, or the director you had lined up gets stolen by a new reality series that pits 80's pop idols against celebrity pets.
Unfortunately, those challenges will not disappear with the completion of this Kickstarter campaign. Any funds we raise will be invested in improving production value, and raising awareness of our web series - NOT lining our pockets. We are still going to have to schedule around day jobs, night classes, and graveyard shifts.
We've gotten very good at overcoming these issues, but as with any low-budget independent production, more snags will always arise.
Luckily, we have been blessed with an extremely talented group of writers, actors, and filmmakers who are willing to pour their blood, sweat, and tears into this project, and not receive a dime in return. We've also been able to hit every single release deadline, bringing you a new show on the first Monday of every month (usually by the skin of our teeth).
Your donation will allow us to raise our standard of quality to a level that everyone involved can be truly proud of... snags, compromises, and all.
