About this project
Dirk Fischer's Solaire Records label will introduce the composer jeffrey roden to an international audience through the recording, release and world-wide distribution of three CDs of new works for solo piano and chamber ensembles.
The Berlin-based record label has assembled internationally renowned musicians to present Roden’s new compositions, including Pianist Sandro Ivo Bartoli, Double Bassist Szymon Marciniak, and The Bennewitz String Quartet
the recording plan:
jeffrey roden will travel to Berlin for two weeks in May of 2016 to work with Dirk Fischer and the musicians to rehearse and record the material for the three CDs listed below.
CD1 (Solo Piano):
- "twelve prayers"
- "10 pieces for solo piano"
- "threads of a prayer"
- "the passing of a king"
CD2 (Chamber Music):
- “the fate of the sparrows”
- “the field”
- “as we rise”
- “as the water rose”
- “6 pieces for the unknown”
CD3 (Chamber Music):
- “string quintet #2”
- "string quintet #3"
- “the many latitudes of grief”
the release plan:
CD1 and CD2 will be released as a double record in October of 2016.
CD3 will be released in May of 2017.
the fundraising goal:
In order for the project to come to fruition, it is necessary for us to seek the financial aid of our friends, family, and all those who are interested in hearing this music come to life. While our goal is to raise a third of the budget, it would be helpful to raise as much of the $26,000 total budget as possible. One-third of the funds needed will pay the musicians for the rehearsal and recordings as well as provide the funds necessary for the four full days of renting the recording space, the historic Reitstadl in Bavaria.
thank you for your help!
The release of the three CDs will present this new work to a worldwide audience, greatly broadening its reach.
In the words of Ian Krouse, jeffrey's composing teacher at UCLA, “I have known jeffrey and his work for some time and am convinced that he is an original and compelling voice that will gain many admirers once he becomes more widely known. It would surprise me not at all if he were to come to be viewed as an important composer in upcoming years. I regard him as that talented.”
Audience members who have heard jeffrey's earlier works have shared their feelings of the music as “contemplative, transcendent, and evocative”.
We are profoundly grateful for your help in giving jeffrey's work a musical life where it may continue to bring its own light and feelings to others.
"If you put your energy and money into a project, you might as well go for something original and daring and enjoy it.” - Dirk Fischer

Risks and challenges
We have a personal plan to be able to manage the balance of the recording costs, along with several pending grant applications. With the help of the Kickstarter funds, we do not anticipate any problems meeting our obligations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
