About this project
Autism for many people is typically associated with silence and non-verbal expression. For us as parents and siblings, the silence is deafening and never fits what we know is going on inside. We set out to make a film that shows how much they have to say. We received funding from friends and family; we took what we had and got started.
"A Thousand Words" is a film that demonstrates that people with autism can express themselves and communicate through art. Production took 4-5 weeks throughout 2011. Principal photography took place in a farmstead community for adults with autism; Bittersweet Farms in Ohio. We have finished the edit and achieved picture lock.
We want to get our message out there to as many people as possible. Our intent is to submit the film to festivals and produce a finished DVD for sale.
The film is finished, but we have more to do in order to get it ready for screening:
- Final Color Correction
- Audio Mixing
- DVD Replication and Packaging
- Digital Cinematic Package production to screen in cinemas and festivals
- Festival submission costs
Until now, this film has come into being through the kind donations of friends and advocates who believe in the message we're trying to deliver. Our dedicated crew have worked hard for little money getting it to this stage; now we need your help to push it over the finish line.
The residents of Bittersweet have given us some incredible stories to tell. However, the amazing people in this film will never see the the benefits unless the film gets out there and changes the way we approach autism. It will promote greater awareness of this condition, how it affects them as adults, and how art changes their lives. With the rising prevalence and diagnosis in society today it's not just a beautiful story, it's an important one.
We’re asking for the minimum it will cost to get all this done, but every dollar we receive will help us accomplish our goal and distribute the film.
- Give what you can
- Tell everyone you know
- Help us spread the word
Thank you and we hope you love the film as much as we do.
