What people are saying:
Heroes Ravage takes the old school RPG genre in another direction as we bring it to the multiplayer age.
Have you ever played an RPG as a Hero where you barge into private houses uninvited in search of loot, and smash all the breakable objects right in front of the house inhabitants while they are eating their dinner? If you have, you know the next step is to demand answers, if they have seen someone SUSPICIOUS walking around town, as you quickly skip through the dialogue and proceed to steal everything that is not glued to the floor.
The NPC villagers often feel their spirits boosted as the chosen one is passing through town, that is, until the hero smashes everything, and steals all the money that is keeping the NPCs from starving. He may be powerful, full of spells and magical items that could buy a castle, but that worn out piece of underwear in the closet sure may come in handy when fighting the demon lord.
Often these actions are enabled by the freedom that the players have in the game, so we decided to flip the script and breathe life into the NPC villagers, giving control to the players, so that they are not robbed of their life savings while looking blankly at the heroes.
And so we created a game where players will play as both heroes and villagers, in a fun and engaging satire to the entire genre.
Heroes Ravage is a 4v4 Online Multiplayer Brawl and will be available on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
The goal of the game is to LOOT / HIDE all the Axis (This world’s valuable crystal). The Villagers have had it with these “Heroes” coming along and taking all their belongings. They have worked too hard for these crystals to only have the heroes take everything.
The Villagers are not going to stand by helpless anymore so now they will prepare to protect their valuables; they will be able to set up a variety of traps to slow down the onslaught of the gem craving heroes.
Another tactic might be to hide their valuables in spots where the heroes won’t bother to look, ever wondered why money drops out of bushes?
Each villager has a special set of skills that can help them keep the heroes’ gluttony for Axis Crystals at bay. By using the speech skill the villagers will force the heroes to hear their life story, immobilizing them. You can personalize these speech bubbles however you want with either text or symbols.
At the start of a match each player on the town side will be able to pick the villager they want to play as, they each have different attributes and special abilities.
Dancer - The many hours singing at the saloon has given her a unique appeal to weary adventurers, when the heroes burst into the house her melody and dancing skills will allure them and slow them down.
- Lumberjack - The frustration of cutting wood all day has made him an avid rage kicker, he can kick objects into the distance. Just be careful, if the item is too fragile the kick will trash the item into many small pieces.
- Annoying Kid - Small in stature and nimble in feet, the kid will be able to fit into small cracks and traverse the house much faster than the average villager. A true ninja rat.
- The Mayor - It’s no wonder the house is big, the mayor’s house is always the largest, and thus attracts the attention of all passing adventurers. His many years of public servitude have taught him that a locked house is a safe house. He is able to lock chests, and then hide their respective keys.
- The village Fat Man - His motto is “If 5 burgers fit, then 6 can fit as well”, his weight is nothing to be made light of, his ability is sitting down to eat a snack, and the heroes will have to work together to move him, a true human-like hibernating bear.
On the heroes side, players will be able to select their starting weapon. Each hero weapon serves a role, some are more focused on monster slaying while others might be more convenient for “dungeon raiding”.
- The Sword - With medium damage, short range but high attack speed and wide reach, the sword is ideal for killing multiple enemies and acquiring crafting materials. It is also a useful ravaging weapon for rapidly breaking multiple small objects and swiftly make way through tightly cramped spaces.
- The Hammer - Though boasting high damage, the hammer suffers from low attack speed and reach. This weapon works best when dealing with well armored monsters and heavily reinforced fortifications.
- The Boomerang - This long range weapon offers versatility to the heroic arsenal, with medium damage it is useful for killing monsters from a safe distance. It also has the ability to grab items from great range and bring them back to its user, making it an asset of enormous utility.
The Hook - This weapon deals negligible damage, but what it lacks in power is made up for in mobility. The hook has no rival when it comes to providing swift and agile movement across large distances. While it may have little to contribute to creeping, it will certainly bring despair to the villagers' heart when they witness all their carefully constructed traps being skipped over with so little effort.
The world of Heroes Ravage is filled with a vast variety of monsters that have remained on the loose for several centuries. Now that the heroes have awakened, it’s time to exterminate and harvest the monster’s carcasses, using the loot to brew new potions, craft bombs, or imbue boots with water walking magic.
But be careful, for the monsters will not go down without a fight. Join arms with your fellow awakened heroes to defeat the strongest of monsters and be greatly rewarded with magical crafting materials.
Each monster prefers different atmospheric conditions, living in different biomes. While studying their routines and resting zones the heroes will be able to plan a perfect course of action for maximum return. There are several types of monsters, each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses and loot drops.
Single encounters can be easily dealt with, but if you don’t finish the job quickly you might get surprised when suddenly you and your fellow heroes find yourselves surrounded by monsters with no way out.
But don’t fear, for you are the chosen ones by the mana tree, the chosen ones can tap into the mana tree’s source of power and be revived unlimited times until they defeat the demon lord, like true unrelenting zombies throwing themselves at evil. Monsters don’t respawn, but you do; who is the real monster now?
Throughout the development of Heroes Ravage we have been adamant to keep random factors (RNGESUS) out of the game, we know the frustration that random elements may cause to competitive players, and we will continue to strive towards skill and strategy based mechanics so that the players will never feel like there was nothing they could have done against the unlucky randomness of fate.
The match map is vast and contains a lot of mysteries to be unraveled, each match will feel different as you re-live the adventure with your friends, or create a barricade in your house.
The dynamic of an online multiplayer world where the heroes play against the villagers will allow for a lot of exiting moments.
The duration of each match will be split into two phases, the first one is:
During this phase the Heroes will complete quests and defeat monsters to earn their loot, then use those resources to craft new gear to help them in the next phase.
Meanwhile the villagers will be busy hiding their valuables, either in special hidden spots or storing them in chests.
Every match the town starts with 4 Axis and 1 Big Axis, 1 Big Axis is worth 3 Axis, therefore each match will have 7 Axis value total.
The Axis Crystal will emit a characteristic sound effect while not hidden, which will alert the heroes of its presence, or could lure them into a pitfall set up by the villagers. During this phase the villagers have to set up a variety of booby traps using the resources they possess in the house. Needing lumber? Time to break some chairs. Needing iron? Time to melt some frying pans.
While both teams prepare, the pathway to the villagers’ house is hard blocked by a giant passing turtle on its way to the beach.
As the time counts down to the next phase, Jardas the turtle keeps walking and walking and as soon as his physical body stops blocking the road, the music will herald the arrival of the next phase!
The moment has come for the heroes to invade the villagers’ house and grab all the loot available to them…
But this time the villagers will not stand idle and watch as their life’s work is ravaged, for the past destructions and desolations still feel vivid in their minds.
Naturally the heroes can’t hurt the villagers, that wouldn’t be very heroic would it? So they have to push them out of their way and continue the search for the promised Axis.
Each character has a particular strength and weight value.
This means the villagers will have to work together if they want to push these overpowered heroes around!
When the timer reaches zero, the heroes must leave to go on more adventures, and take the Axis they found with them.
The villagers get to keep the Axis that the heroes didn’t find.
Every match will last up to 10 minutes.
In the end, one team will win and the other team will lose, but both will have the opportunity to take some gems back with them. These Axis will be added to each player’s ingame currency balance and will allow the players to shop with them for cosmetic items to personalize their character to their liking.
You will be able to customize your character to stand out from the other players, complete challenges to earn new hats, or go to the village barber and get a new haircut, maybe dye it to look like a rainbow.
As a Hero you will be able to customize your character’s look, from the style of your weapon to the color of your eyes.
As a villager you will be not only able to customize your character but also your own room. Add new furniture, color your floor or buy new paintings.
To acquire add-ons please add its respective value to your pledge; after the campaign ends we will send you a survey in which you can specify which extra items you pledged for.
I know what you are wondering and the answer is: YES! YOU CAN RIDE YOUR PETS!!!
Why kickstarter? We are a small team of 4 people making a multiplayer game, none of us has experience in the marketing department and it wouldn’t be easy to reach a wide audience without a platform as big as kickstarter.
As we stated above we have the core mechanics of the game done, and kickstarter will allows us not only to show the game to the public and gather feedback, but also to get the funds needed to finance servers that can handle the load of several players playing at the same time with no hiccups; no one will play a game that constantly lags or timeouts.
To create a smooth experience we need a strong community, and what better way to reach you than with a kickstarter campaign?
Together we will make a game that surely will become a success!
Since June 2017 when development began, we’ve been focused on implementing the core framework for the game. We have been structuring the priority pipeline with playability in mind so that we could achieve a playable multiplayer game by the time we released on kickstarter.
We left pre-alpha stage in June 2018, one year after we started working on Heroes Ravage and have run through the iterative process of a friends and family alpha testing stage, where we are smashing the most glaring and game breaking bugs.
The goal is to enter Closed Alpha as soon as the campaign finishes, and have the community stress test the game as we keep improving it until we can reach a full release.
June 2017 – We get together and develop the idea
- September 2017 – First Prototype working
- June 2018 – Friends and Family Alpha testing begins
- December 2018 - Server stress-test
- January 2019 – Kickstarter Campaign
- June 2019 – Closed Alpha (Kickstarter backers tier 3 and above)
- September 2019 – Early Access Launch (Kickstarter tier 2 backers)
- Q4 2019 – Full game Launch
- Q1 2020 – Content Update
Risks and challenges
If making single player games is difficult in itself, making multiplayer games is another ball game altogether. Often the risks involved in backing such games include the possibility that they will never be launched.
We have been working on Heroes Ravage for the past year, and we are currently in the alpha stage, that’s where all the core mechanics have already been implemented and the game is playable.
Now we are moving to the polish phase.
As stated above we need funding for servers to accommodate for future player numbers and to retain the talent we have right now.
Currently we are very limited by hardware and this makes it hard to stress test the network, though we are confident that as soon as we get the servers up and running we will have the game ready to play.
And if for some reason Heroes Ravage doesn’t launch, we will refund every backer in full.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
