What people are saying:
Heroes Ravage – Rise of an NPC, takes the old school RPG genre in another direction, you are not trying to save the world but your hard earned crystals.
Have you ever played an RPG as a Hero where you barge into private houses uninvited in search of loot, and smash all the breakable objects right in front of the house inhabitants while they are eating their dinner? If you have, you know the next step is to demand answers, if they have seen someone SUSPICIOUS walking around town, as you quickly skip through the dialogue and proceed to steal everything that is not glued to the floor.
The NPC villagers often feel their spirits boosted as the chosen one is passing through town, that is, until the hero smashes everything, and steals all the money that is keeping the NPCs from starving. He may be powerful, full of spells and magical items that could buy a castle, but that worn out piece of underwear in the closet sure may come in handy when fighting the demon lord.
Often these actions are enabled by the freedom that the players have in the game, so we decided to flip the script and breathe life into the NPC villagers, giving control to the players, so that they are not robbed of their life savings while looking blankly at the heroes.
And so we created a game where players will play as the villager. For once you will feel what is like to be an RPG NPC, in a fun and engaging satire to the entire genre.
The game and will be available on Steam for Windows and Linux, and also on the Nintendo Switch provided we secure the required funding.
The goal of the game is to protect all your Axis (This world’s valuable crystal).
You the Villager have had it with these “Heroes” coming along and taking all your belongings. You have worked too hard for these crystals to only have the heroes take everything.
You the NPC will no longer stand by helpless anymore, now you will prepare to protect your valuables; You will be able to set up a variety of traps to slow down the onslaught of the gem craving heroes.
Another tactic might be to hide your valuables in spots where the heroes won’t bother to look, ever wondered why money drops out of bushes or clay pots?
After many years of saving up, you finally have enough crystals to buy a little broken down ranch in the outskirts of town, you pay the merchant and are excited to finally have a place to call your own.
Unknown to you the demon lord has awakened, and so the tree of mana, defender of this world, calls upon the Heroes!
The Heroes have just awakened and are in dire need of Axis (this world’s crystals). Before you can even begin enjoying your time in your new house the Heroes barge in, breaking everything you have, and stealing all your hard earned valuables.
You try to reason with the Heroes but to no avail, shouts and incomprehensive grunts are the only reply as they roll around in your house slashing everything… As fast as they came in, they also leave… Leaving a trail of destruction….
You hear the grunts of the Heroes getting farther and farther away from you…
As you walk around town you notice that all the houses have been “looted” leaving only the villagers looking lifeless at each other…
As you return home depressed and disheartened, you approach the local merchant and discuss what happened, that’s when the merchant will tell you that it is normal, and more Heroes will come in the future looking for loot. That’s when you realize that you had enough, and so you commission the merchant to start developing all kinds of deadly traps to prevent the Heroes from ransacking your house.
During the Story of Heroes Ravage – Rise of an NPC, you will eventually realize that just making traps is not enough, since you will have to fight endless hordes of relentless Heroes starving for loot. You will have to investigate a solution for you and your town, you will need to travel the world and find out the mysteries surrounding the Heroes, the Demon Lord, and many more soul shattering revelations that will leave you wishing that it wasn’t all true.
In the end this is a story about the rise of an NPC finally protecting his house and his valuables from the Heroes, no matter how far he will have to go, even if he has to go to the forbidden demon lord den or the legendary halls of Heroes, in order to finally have his well-deserved peace.
You will be able to customize your villager to your liking, customize your character’s look, the style of your Hair, your cloths, your gender, the color of your skin, hair and eyes.
During your time as an NPC, you will go through 3 phases each day.
The sun rises and it’s a new day in town, you get out of bed, and can go stroll through town and talk with other villagers and be part of the local community. You can buy all kinds of things from the local merchant to put in your house.
After you go back home and place the things you bought in town, the second phase will start, that’s when the Loot starving Heroes come barging through your door and Ravage the interior of your house.
During this phase you have to defend your valuables from the hordes of Heroes invading your House.
After you get “rid” of all the Heroes, the next phase will begin… The aftermath, where you will be able to go to town and observe what happened to the town during the Heroes Ravage, maybe check a particular villager whom you gave tips to on how to defend his house, if your tips were good, he may reward you, if they were bad… well, word travels fast in small villages.
During this time, it’s your chance to further investigate the actions of the Heroes, you will complete a series of riddles and follow a quest line to unveil the mysteries of the world and save your town from further Hero invasions.
When the sun starts setting down, it’s time to go back home, repair some of the damage the Heroes made and sleep, finishing the day.
When the Heroes break into your house they are in search of the Axis Crystals.
If you leave the crystals out in the open it will alert the heroes of its presence, or could lure them into a pitfall set up by you.
You will be able to craft and upgrade a variety of booby traps using the resources you possess. Just open the blueprint menu and select the best traps for your strategy.
To further protect your house, you can place and hatch monster eggs that you find in the world or buy off the merchant.
Each egg will have different colors and will hatch different types of monsters, enough of these little creatures in your house and the heroes won’t stand a chance.
During the game you will be able to upgrade your house, from a simple 1 room broken house, to a deadly Anti-Hero maze House.
Each upgrade will increase the size of the interior allowing you to place more traps and more monster eggs, to create the ultimate impenetrable fortress.
The match map is vast and contains a lot of mysteries to be unraveled, each day will lead to new discoveries, new riddles to uncover, and new Heroes to defeat.
Each Hero invading your house has a role, depending on his weapon of choice his behavior will be different inside your house since each weapon has their own weakness and strengths.
- The Sword - With medium damage, short range but high attack speed and wide reach, the sword is ideal for killing multiple enemies. It is also a useful ravaging weapon for rapidly breaking multiple small objects and swiftly make way through tightly cramped spaces.
- The Hammer - Though boasting high damage, the hammer suffers from low attack speed and reach. This weapon works best when dealing with well armored monsters and heavily reinforced fortifications.
- The Boomerang - This long range weapon offers versatility to the heroic arsenal, with medium damage it is useful for killing monsters from a safe distance. It also has the ability to grab items from great range and bring them back to its user, making it an asset of enormous utility.
- The Hook - This weapon deals negligible damage, but what it lacks in power is made up for in mobility. The hook has no rival when it comes to providing swift and agile movement across large distances. While it may have little to contribute to killing monster, it will certainly bring despair to the villager heart when he witness all his carefully constructed traps being skipped over with so little effort.
Each weapon has advantages and disadvantages against each type of traps and monsters, so it’s always best to have a balanced defense.
Each awakened hero has been greatly rewarded with magical Items, so that is another thing to watch out for… Do you like the pit of water you created, well if a Hero is wearing water boots, he can just walk over your trap and steal your stuff. Each Hero is unique and more starving for loot than the next.
During your playtrough you will find all kinds of fellow NPCs to interact with, and discover their storys and how they have been suffering from the Heroes.
We are a small team of 4 people making a game, none of us has experience in the marketing department and it wouldn’t be easy to reach a wide audience without a platform as big as Kickstarter, as it will allows us not only to show the game to the public and gather feedback, but also to get the funds needed to finance the game, and help us fully dedicate ourselves to creating a smooth experience for you to enjoy.
Here is the breakdown of how our expenses will look:
Since June 2017 when development began, we’ve been focused on implementing the core mechanics for the game. We have been structuring the priority pipeline with playability in mind so that we could achieve a playable game.
After receiving feedback from the community we have decided to dedicate ourselves to producing a story driven single player game with all the current mechanics we have in place.
The goal is to enter Closed Alpha at the end of winter, and have the community test the game as we keep improving it until we can reach a full release.
April 2019 – Kickstarter Campaign Start
June 2019 – Kickstarter Campaign End
Q4 2019 – Close Alpha Tests ( Kickstarter tier 4 backers )
Q1 2020 – Early Access Launch ( Kickstarter tier 3 backers )
Q2 2020 – Full game Launch
Risks and challenges
Making single player games is difficult, often the risks involved in backing such games include the possibility that they will never be launched.
We have been working on Heroes Ravage for the past year, and we have all the core mechanics in place, and a big portion of the art and sound done.
Now we need to build upon it and with further time and dedication we are confident we can produce a great game for you to enjoy.
If for some reason Heroes Ravage doesn’t launch, we will refund every backer in full.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
