The way we see it, either we let automated manufacturing and homogeneous design take over, or we stand up — with chisels, rough hands, and an eye for detail — to create something that’s out of this world.
As less-expensive materials and automated production techniques have developed, traditional craftsmen everywhere have seen demand for their services drop precipitously. Many of those artisans who would love to practice their craft for a living, have had to find work outside of their trade of choice to make ends meet.
It is our mission at KARV to stem the tide of these craftsmen from their trade. At KARV we leverage our deep knowledge of design, and woodwork to establish a continuous flow of work for our network of gifted craftsmen.
In order to produce a continuous supply of truly authentic and exceptional products, KARV hires gifted craftsmen from around the world who individually craft our products according to rigorous standards.
Hand-carved and Hand-turned Cufflinks: Each cufflink is meticulously hewn by master artisans from sustainably-harvested Mahogany, and painstakingly sanded and finished with exceptional attention to detail. Cufflinks are available in Natural or Ebony Finish and come carefully secured in a hand-crafted Walnut jewelry box.
Hand-sculpted Walnut Valet: Nothing screams manliness like big and broad hand-sculpted Walnut shoulders. The ultimate gentleman's accessory, KARV's Walnut Valet is the epitome of design and function.
Here's what's awesome about our Valet:
- Naturally-contoured shoulders keep your sport/suit coat in perfect form.
- USB Charging port for smartphones hidden above the accoutrements shelf
- Solid Walnut hanging rod just the right height for ties and slacks.
- Accoutrements shelf specifically sized for smart phones, wallets, and other accessories.
- The valet also includes a convenient, solid Walnut shoe compartment and adjustable feet.
Hand-carved Skull Bookend / Headphone Rest: Our hand-sculpted bookends are the ultimate combination of precision craftsmanship and design.
If you are looking to add the cool factor to your office, library, living room, or studio, KARV Skull Bookends are the ticket. They also make a great location to rest a set of quality headphones.
Each bookend is carved by hand from a solid block of sustainably-harvested Mahogany, then painstakingly sanded and finished by our master artisans. Bookends are only offered in Ebony finish on Kickstarter.
All KARV Cufflinks and Bookends are carefully crafted by our master carvers in Lima, Peru.
Our hand-carvers and sculptors come from a long tradition of European craftsmanship that made its way to South America with the Spanish. When we meet our Kickstarter goal, KARV will employ several Peruvian carvers full-time. It is our long-term goal to employ every qualified carver in South America who wishes to practice his / her trade on a full-time basis.
Norvil is a third-generation wood carver and sculptor whose work can be found in fine homes, and buildings throughout the Americas. Norvil works closely with Andrew and Brad to refine designs and prototype future products. Norvil is the consummate artist and brings an aesthetic and skillset to KARV that is crucial to making our ideas a reality. Norvil is also a true perfectionist and will not let a product leave his care without making sure that it meets his strict standards. With Norvil's signature on your KARV products, you know you are holding a quality work of art that is truly one-of-a-kind.
OUR FURNITURE MAKERS
KARV valets and furniture pieces are hand-crafted in New Hampshire by gifted furniture makers who employ a balanced mix of traditional artisanship and technology. With the movement of much of the country's furniture production oversees, automation and inexpensive designs have become the norm in US furniture manufacturing. With this shift, many gifted furniture makers have been forced to find work in industries where their talents as craftsmen are not employed.
Upon successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign KARV will hire several full-time furniture makers from the New England area to carefully craft our Solid Walnut Valets and other furniture pieces.
TO TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMEN
At KARV, we follow the highest standard of ethical behavior when it comes to supporting our artisans.
A percentage of profits from each KARV product sold goes to the artisan who crafted it. This program allows our artisans to do what they love, and make the returns they deserve on the investment of their time and talents into crafting KARV products. Compliance with this commitment will be audited annually by a third-party auditor agreed upon by both KARV and our artisans.
- We supply our craftsmen with the tools and space they need to exercise their craft safely and comfortably.
- KARV supplies all of the materials needed to produce our products, so that the craftsman can focus on his/her work without any expense to him/herself.
We have generated initial designs and prototypes. We need the support of our awesome Kickstarter backers to finalize packaging, purchase materials, set up production, and pay our craftsmen to start producing exquisite hand-carved products. This is when all the hard work pays off for us, our craftsmen, and our generous backers.
EARLY BACKER SPECIAL: Complete the set! The first 10 backers at the Valet level will also receive 4 sets of hand-carved cufflinks of their choice!

Risks and challenges
Our team is highly experienced in design and manufacture of traditionally crafted wood products. After years of experience in other segments of this business, we know enough to know that things don't always work out as planned. That said, we know what the potential roadblocks can be, and we have prepared for them. We have committed craftsmen ready to start creating masterpieces, and we have our suppliers identified and standing at the ready. We will communicate frequently with our backers to ensure that they are in the loop with regards to our progress, and any potential delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
