Alright folks! We have some big news for y'all. We have been awarded the food concession contract for the National Comedy Center(NCC) when it opens later this summer. This is a big opportunity for us and we are beyond excited, but with new opportunities come new costs for our business.
First, a little bit about the project:
We will be stocking an area in the NCC gift shop with ready-made food. Think salads, sandwiches, drinks, and snacks. We will also be operating a food cart on the back patio of the center. This will be open seasonally and to the general public as well.
Second, what are you going to use the money for?
The funds we raise from this Kickstarter are going to purchase the equipment we need to make this all work. We are going to purchase merchandiser coolers for the grab and go area as well as cooking equipment for the patio food cart operation.
Next, why Kickstart this?
Now, we could be all boring and go to a bank, fill out a bunch of paperwork and sign our lives away to get this money. Well frankly, we have already done that once in order to buy these buildings and its not a super fun experience. We'd much rather raise funds from our customers and give you some cool merchandise and experiences instead of just paying a bank some interest. Basically, this is going to be more fun and will get us to do some things that our customers have been asking about for years like sweet merch and cool events (see rewards).
So how about those rewards?
We have come up with what we think is a pretty sweet list of rewards. Here is some info on them.
NEW Reward!!! Illustrated Choking Poster
Designed by our good friend Joe Grice, this poster provides vital information in the case of a choking emergency in a theme fitting our block.
The beloved minotaur sticker is coming back. You can still it on your car, your dog, your laptop, or whatever you want.
We are going to have a pretty neat shirt that will available only to our Kickstarter backers. We are still working on the design, but you'll be able to pick your size and if you aren't into the design we can hook you up with our regular Labyrinth shirt (coming soon as well) or one of our Brazil tees. Also, our shirts will be a unisex cut and made from organic cotton.
This is going to be a popular reward. We make fun pizzas from scratch and this will be a good time to try different pizzas with your friends, family, or colleagues.
We bought these great travel mugs several years ago and they are coming back as part of this campaign. This is an insulated stainless steel mug and with a lid that twists on tight to keep your yummy beverage super hot and not in your lap or all over your car. The carabiner clip is a great handle and can clip onto your messenger bag, purse, or luggage. Plus, you also get your first drink in this mug for free.
Breakfast in our Bed
Airbnb at Thurston Terrace is where you'll be staying as part of the "Breakfast in (our) Bed" reward. If you pick this reward we'll work with you to find the best night to make a Jamestown vacation to remember.
We have some fun pint glasses for our bar, Brazil. They are great for drinking stuff out of. Put whatever you want in them. We won't judge.
Help us go above and beyond! We are gracious of any help you can give us and all the support you have given us over the years. It's truly been incredible. But if you are interested and able to help us go beyond the $10,000 mark we'd happily take it. More resources at this point would allow us to invest in other aspects of our business to make all our operations run smoother.
What are we going to use the money for?
Good question. The funds we raise from this Kickstarter are going to go to the equipment we need to purchase to make all of this work. We are going to purchase merchandiser coolers for the grab and go area as well as cooking equipment for the patio food cart operation.
This is all cool, but will I still be able to enjoy the Labyrinth as I always have?
100% Our goal is to sacrifice nothing that our customers have come to love about the Lab. You coming in for a Thai Iced Coffee, a soup, or a burrito is what made it possible for us to do this and we definitely don't want to do anything to inconvenience our current customer base. A big reason for this campaign is to make our infrastructure robust enough, so the quality of your experience will not decline in any way. In fact, we want this to make your experience with us better. Since part of the concession contract is for grab and go food at NCC we thought we'd love to bring that to the Labyrinth. Starting mid-July we will have a cooler in the Labyrinth with ready-made salads and drinks so that customers can get our food in the shortest amount of time possible.
Risks and challenges
We have a tight timeframe to get all this to work, but that is something we are used to a little bit. We also are going to be doing things we have never done before, but we have a great deal of experience and an incredible team to help us. We are sure there are going to be hurdles and that things won't go smoothly, but we know that that is the rule and not the exception. We will overcome our challenges because we have a great mix of experience, awesome staff, and supportive customers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
