Love the Sun! Love our planet!
My Story- A passion for saving the animals!
Have you ever wanted to help make a difference? Hi, my name is Jessa Skye and I have felt a passion for saving endangered animals since I was 6 years old.
Now I'm 10, soon to be 11 and have learned that the planet needs our help and this is taking its toll on Endangered Species and us! My love for animals combined with the love of the outdoors inspired the creation of this UV apparel line.
This all started when I was 8 because I was listening to my parents and their friends talk about working together to protect people from the sun and promote a healthy lifestyle. My parents have been doing that for over 20+ years making sunscreen, but now they were talking about UV clothing. Their friends said, they could put ANY image on the shirts and it would still have the UPF 50+ protection with the same light weight feel.
I asked, could we put "Endangered Species" on the shirts and help protect them too? They all laughed but I was serious, so they said, yes and it's taken some time. That's how my idea started, we did our research and found one organization we liked and found out that is a 100% Charity Navigator rated (less than 2% of Charities receive this rating for transparency, effectiveness and efficiency), Wildaid.org. WildAid believes “when the buying stops, the killing can too”. The illegal wildlife trade is a multi-billion dollar global industry largely driven by consumer demand.

Fun and whimsical designs- we have chosen five (5) endangered and threatened animals on our first run of UV Shirts.
We care about you, the environment and all living creatures.
Now for the technical details:
What is UV apparel? What does UPF stand for?
SPF (sun protection factor) is used for sunscreen/skin care products. Sun protective clothing rating is called UPF (ultraviolet protection factor). UV apparel is clothing specifically designed for sun protection and is produced from a fabric rated for its level of ultraviolet (UV) protection. A novel weave structure and denier (related to thread count per inch) may produce sun protective properties.
In addition, some textiles and fabrics employed in the use of sun protective clothing (uv apparel) may be pre-treated with UV-inhibiting ingredients during manufacture to enhance their effectiveness (ie. Zinc oxide or Titanium Dioxide). The only problem with adding the minerals in uv apparel is that over time, they can wash out of the uv apparel. bü uv apparel uses no chemicals or minerals, so the UV protection will not disappear after numerous washes.
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) represents the ratio of sunburn-causing UV without and with the protection of the fabric, similar to SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings for sunscreen. While standard summer fabrics have UPF ~6, sun protective clothing typically has UPF ~30, which means that only 1 out of ~30 units of UV will pass through (~3%). bu uv apparel is rated at UPF 50+, and tested even higher, so virtually no uv radiation is getting through our uv apparel.
We currently don't make printed shirts, we need to use a technique called "Sublimation". Sublimation printing is more expensive than screen printing and there are many advantages. This technology does not block the fibers or alter the UPF, providing maximum protection and breathability capabilities. This technology is used by most athletes around the world in their apparel, as sublimation printing provides "bright and vibrant" images and produces high quality pictures on the UV apparel. These are NOT your normal shirts.

Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges:
Jessa Skye works hard at everything she does and patiently waited to get the Endangered Species Collection ready for Kickstarter and full-scale production, so the uv apparel will be made, and there are no risks that the clothing won't be made but there may be:
DELAYED MANUFACTURING: Our fabric and sublimation manufacturers are working with long lead times and this is a small productions. We've worked out lead times and manufacturing periods, leaving a little extra time just in case, so we are comfortable with our current timelines but you never know.
PRODUCT ADJUSTMENTS: As the Endangered Species series gets geared up for production, some minor adjustments may be made to best meet your needs.
Any obstacles will be tackled to deliver the most awesome performance UPF 50+ clothing you've ever seen.
Any pledge amount brings us one step closer to our goal. Become a part of the Jessa Skye team by backing our project or by helping us spread the word of protection and conservation by sharing our page.
