Based on DC comics characters. I am creating a concept trailer, which i intend to send to Warner Bros LA for their consideration.
I am in the process of creating a professional quality “proof of concept” short film as my 4th year honours project. In the professional film industry “proof of concept” short films are created to illustrate to a studio or company how a property such as a book etc could be adapted into a movie. Many movies have been created this way, such as Sin City by Robert Rodriguez. Sin City is a Graphic novel by Frank Miller. Using his connections Rodriguez gathered actors and a green screen set and created a 4-5 min short film. Rodriguez then showed his short film to creator Frank Miller, Miller was blown away by the results and allowed Rodriguez to make a feature length film of his creation.
I intend to create a short film in the form of a trailer adapted from the DC Comics series ‘Justice League’. I plan to use both live action footage and 3d animation to make this project a reality.
Unfortunately Filmmaking is an expensive business and as hard as I try I know that I will not be able to fund this project solely on my own back. I have estimated that my project can be completed for approximately £2500. I have already secured £600 via a student grant.
I am asking for donations so that I can complete my project to a professional standard and to my own personal high standards. Id like to illustrate how this money will effect my project;
Equipment – Funding will allow me to rent a suitable quality camera to capture my footage. This is paramount for my project to succeed. With high quality images I will be able to make a much more professional final product. This would also allow be to have the option to rent sound or lighting equipment as required.
3d Outsourcing – My own discipline within filmmaking & digital media is video capture and video compositing. I am not capable by any means of creating 3d models of professional quality. I have however contacted professionals that would be willing to create these 3d models for my project. I was also able to haggle them down to doing this for 2/3rds of the usual costs. With these models I would be able to animate then and composite them with live action footage that I will record.
I have already begun this process with costume designers, funding would allow my designers to create much more believable and functional costumes for this production. Funding would allow me to actually be able to pay these designers for their time and efforts.
Actors – Funding would allow me to be able to pay actors for there work. This would allow me much more flexibility during the casting stage as I wouldn’t have to rely on actors doing this for free.
Transport – Funding would allow me to pay for transport during my production. Transport costs of both my actors/crew and my equipment.
Food – Funding would allow me feed both my actors & crew on shooting days, a common courtesy.
3d Printing – Funding would allow me to have my 3d models turned into real live 3d statues, a key part of my final deliverable.
Postage & Packaging – A major part of my project. Funding would allow aid me in shipping my product to the various Warner Bros. locations around the world.

Naturally with a large project like this there are many things that can go wrong.
The deadline set in place by my university is around the 1st of april, i can't guarentee that the project will be finished fully by then, but certainly the first edit will be completed. After this deadline i will be able to go back and fine tune the project, which i aim to have fully complete by mid june. Shortly after i would begin delivering rewards.
The current amount i am looking for is £1200, however if i were to receive more than this the project would certainly benefit. For example, I would be able to have more time in a studio, which at the moment is very low because of budget issues.
With my project being a concept it does need to be kept private until Warner bros has had a look. Which means backers wouldn't be able to receive or view the project until they give the word. This could be something of a deterrant to potential backers. However after i have received word the project will be made available to backers asap.
