TARTARUS is the beginning of the end, a science fiction short film about the basest of all human instincts: the will to survive.
THE CAST OF TARTARUS
TAHMOH PENIKETT, famous for his role as Lt. Karl 'Helo' Agathon in the Emmy Award winning 'Battlestar Galactica', leads the exceptionally talented cast of TARTARUS as the tortured and honor-bound Aulus Pateras.
AMY SCOTT, a recurring guest-star in hit television shows 'Mad Men', 'Veronica Mars', and 'Desperate Housewives', joins the cast of TARTARUS as the indomitable and strong-willed Aurora Theia.
TOM KONKLE, with decades of experience in television and having recently finished a guest-starring role on HBO's 'Luck', completes the cast of TARTARUS as the weathered and compassionate Pontus, a man for whom everything has seemingly been lost.
THE WORLD IS NOT WHAT IT ONCE WAS.
Once upon a time science fiction was so powerful, so innately human, that it inspired audiences of all ages. Filmmakers such as Spielberg, Cameron, and Kubrick inspired us to gaze into the future, and challenged us to look into ourselves. Now, hopelessly dominated by stereotypes and cliches, this underrepresented genre is in dire need of a new life; a new energy.
Tartarus is an emotionally powerful, yet epic, science fiction short film, more than two years in the making, that explores the most primitive of all human instincts: the will to survive.
More than 30 years ago increased solar activity destabilized the world's geomagnetic field, causing temperatures to rise and oceans to evaporate. Nations scrambled to build massive underground storage tanks, but too few were finished in time. Water is sold by the barrel and international tensions mount.
The largest of the water tanks ruptures; prices skyrocket, setting off record inflation and mass public protests. A mysterious sickness spreads globally, claiming the lives of millions. They call it the RUST, and there is no cure.
Fearing infection, Western nations stage coordinated nuclear strikes against the most infected countries. Months later, the first cases of RUST are recorded in the West. Alliances fracture under pressure to quarantine outbreaks.
War. Howling Sandstorms. RUST. Extinction seems certain.
Welcome to the beginning of the end. Welcome to Tartarus.
With the world in its final death throes, two former soldiers rely only upon one another to survive. AULUS, stricken with advanced stages of the RUST, worsens with each new day. AURORA, young and impulsive, desperately wants to save him, her guardian and protector in this hell.
Hope arrives one day in a radio signal, indicating a location for the rumored Cure to the RUST. Perilously, they forsake the protection of the deteriorating city and brave the spanning desert wasteland.
Lingering upon the precipice of disaster, a dying man and a young woman struggle to emerge from the darkness.

OUR CAMERA: THE RED EPIC
Released little more than a year ago, the RED EPIC has already earned a reputation as the 'go-to' digital camera for both studio and independent films. Upcoming productions of the highest caliber, such as The Amazing Spiderman (2012) and The Hobbit (2012), are utilizing this amazing camera to achieve results many thought to be impossible only a few years ago.
TARTARUS will be shot in October 2012, with a private premier screening in February 2013, in Los Angeles. We have already raised $38,000 through a number of private investors and are now running this Kickstarter campaign to finance the remainder of our production budget.
Through your contribution, you will become a part of the community responsible for the creation of TARTARUS. In a few short days we will unveil a regularly updated production website (www.tartarus-film.com) to ensure that all donors are kept up to date with our progress. Content will include production diaries, interviews, and exclusive behind-the-scenes photos.
We have some great rewards up for grabs, listed on the right-hand side of your screen. These include HD Copies of TARTARUS, posters, Mammon Industries employee ID badges, scripts, custom-made props, T-shirts, and exclusive experiences.
In addition to these rewards, we will also be offering something that many do not consider: YOUR SECONDS. If you break a film down by its budget and divide that by the number of frames, you arrive at the cost for each frame. TARTARUS will cost $2.25 per frame. For every contribution, you will receive the frames that you helped to create.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS
Contributors can pledge any amount they choose, then select a reward from the list. Once the campaign ends, if the total pledges for TARTARUS meets or exceeds the $20,000 goal, pledges will be charged and we will receive the funds we need to make our film. If this goal is not met, then no money is withdrawn and no rewards are provided. Any additional funds beyond the $20,000 goal will be used directly to make our film the best it can be.
- Can I increase my pledge or choose a different reward? YES YOU CAN! Once you make a contribution you may sign into your Kickstarter account and either increase your pledge or choose a different reward.

Glad You asked! Of course we want everyone to see Tartarus at the best quality possible; however, the Blu-ray duplication process is still quite expensive. If you would like a Blu-ray instead of the DVD version listed in the reward, please add $10 to your pledge and notify us via a comment. You will also get a chance to request the Blu-ray once the project ends via a survey we will send out to all backers.
Yes! Most definitely. In the "reward" section, we have just recently added 'BLUE ENERGY ENGINEER," you'll find what you're looking for there!
Sorry we did not include this on the reward section, we made sure to add it to our first update. If all backers residing outside of the US, could add $5.00 (for shipping) to their original pledge we can have their rewards to them as soon as they become available!
Yes, of course! Just make sure to let us know your preference, and to add $10.00 to your original pledge of $25.00 or more.
Live-Action. We know that the concept art may throw people off, but you need not worry. We are filming on multiple RED epic cameras to capture every angle and performance.
Yes, they definitely are. We wanted to make sure we could please all backers worldwide.
