A feature comedy about two AWOL soldiers who are mistaken for war heroes and become embroiled in a small town mayoral election.
Medal of Victory will be helmed by writer and director Joshua Moise and navigated by Warehouse District Productions.
About the Filmmakers
Josh's student film, Supermax Wisconsin, premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival and went on to play at festivals nationwide. The late Howard Zinn wrote of it, “I know of no film that tells the story of American prisons more dramatically, more powerfully than the documentary, Supermax Wisconsin.” These filmmakers previously collaborated on the short film Treasury Men in Action (which premiered on Hulu.com and Funnyordie.com) a comedy about two broke losers who try to rob a mother obsessed recluse out of a suitcase full of treasure, and The Captain and Me, a black and white comedy short about a pirate who gets punched in the balls and the would-be heroes who try to avenge this injustice.
Our Origin Story
Warehouse District Productions fell under incorporation in 2006, but its origins span over a decade. WDP's roots are in Madison, Wisconsin, where a group of young actors, writers, artists and vagabonds met in order to escape the tedium of everyday existence. Nestled among abandoned factories and rail lines, they quickly began to collaborate on independent projects. From the bedlam a three-headed producing entity emerged (Will Blomker, Mason Hill and Jason Schumacher). This entity would soon leave its Madison birthing ground to spread its folly and clarity of vision to the far reaches of the globe.
Five years after seeing Will play a junkie transvestite in Lanford Wilson’s Balm in Gilead (and never having met him) Josh decided to call Will out of the blue and cast him in his noir short No Way Out. During that shoot a couple of New York's Finest squealed up to Josh and Will in an unmarked car and leaped out with hands on pistols. Josh and Will discovered that apparently walking around decrepit neighborhoods in a leather jacket in August is "suspicious". Or auspicious.
These early collaborations forged the continuing airtight relationship between Moise and Warehouse District Productions.
WANT TO KNOW HOW DEDICATED WE ARE?
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a groundbreaking online platform that allows artists to raise money for projects that wouldn't otherwise get financial backing. Kickstarter allows everyone to be a patron of the arts, no matter what amount they have to give. Big or small…it all matters! With the help of family, friends and total strangers, it offers artists from all walks of life the opportunity to make projects that wouldn't be made otherwise. If a society’s art is the reflection of its soul, Kickstarter allows us to show that the true American soul isn't manufactured by formula in the conference room of some business conglomerate; it’s forged by American artists that live and breath passion for their art in and around us in everyday life. It could be your neighbor, your gardener, your sister, brother, or cousin. Whoever they are, you can bet yer bottom dollar they are dedicated to giving themselves wholly to the projects they immerse themselves in and to the audiences they reach, however little or big their corner of the world may be.
But there are some important rules for Kickstarter. Funds must be made within the allotted time or none of the donations are given. We have 30 days to reach our goal or we don't receive a penny. And every penny helps. So come along with us as we make Medal of Victory. It's gonna be a wild ride.
How will your contribution help make this movie?
Your contribution will help us get a phenomenal cast and crew that will work diligently to make this project far exceeds its means. It will provide good food and comfy shelter for that cast and crew. We'll use your donation to secure the same type of camera that was used to shoot The Social Network, and the new Hobbit movies, among others; a truck to crash into a tree; an elaborate dream sequence using flywires designed by flying director and stunt coordinator Jason Schumacher; great costumes; a top notch art department; state-of-the-art post-production sound and video and much more! We want to put your money onto the screen to ensure Medal of Victory is ready for a nationwide release. And we’re not paying ourselves. Our reward is getting this movie made for you to enjoy. We love it and know you will to.
We’d be honored to have you join the Medal of Victory family.
