NEW WANTED POSTERS FOR BACKERS THAT PLEDGE 15$ OR MORE.
We want to fill our game credits with the pirate version of each one of out backers!
The Island is an interactive, interdisciplinary 2D program aimed at primary students between ages of seven to twelve. In it, users become part of a group of wannabe explorers who dream of the possibility of going to sea in search of new lands. It’s an adventure game divided into chapters in which the characters guide the development of the story and their decisions have a direct impact on the story-line.
You play as one of the members of this peculiar group. Throughout the story you will face decisions, challenges, puzzles and problems which you will have to solve in order to achieve your objectives. But as we are designing a dynamic game we want your results and decision impacting on the story’s development. So beware!
The Island is being developed for PC but we are also designing this game for interactive whiteboards. Other platforms are an objective but only if we can afford it via stretch goals. Should we reach those stretch goals, every version of the game will be available for the users to download. The estimated release date of the game is July 2014, if we reach the stretch goals we will need to change the release date.
This project is in Kickstarter because we want to involve anyone that’s interested in making this game better. We want it not only to be a great learning tool but also a great immersive experience in which the players can enjoy themselves with a well written story. You feedback, opinions and ideas will be a key factor in making this game great!
MEET THE TEAM.
We are OX, an Argentinian startup formed by a group of friends who want to make a contribution to education; we are convinced that the best way to learn is by finding new and innovative ways of teaching. We have created a program that can change the way kids learn. We have been doing this for over 4 years.
Well, for starters, we won’t feel ashamed of taking your money! But there is much more you can do. Share this project with anyone that could be interested, spread the word. You can also be part of our community and participate in polls, surveys and forums. Each opinion will be taken into account to achieve our goals. We have designed a system in which each one of our members is able to contribute with what they feel more comfortable with.

HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT YOU WILL BE GETTING WHEN YOU BECOME PART OF OUR BACKERS!!
List of different rewards and a short description of them
A. Thanks, Special Credits & Forum Access.
At any reward level you will have access to exclusive backers contests, polls, surveys and much more. Your opinion matters and we want you as involved in the project as you want to be. If you are a teacher, pedagogue or just an education lover you can help us create an even better learning tool with your ideas, designs and techniques.
Your name will appear in the game credits and will be screamed out loud by one of our pirate voice actors to be remembered for every one of our players for as long as it takes for the next name to be called. Your name will also be added on our Island Project Wall.
B. Digital concept art.
Digital concept art of the game, signed by the artist. This means there will be a moment in which one of our artist will have you in mind while creating a character, object or landscape. Each piece will be unique so you will be able to brag about it every time you see it on the game. (Your name will still be yelled out loud, maybe even with a louder tone).
C. Physical Game Box.
Just because we know how neat a well design Game Box looks like in your shelves, we will give you your own physical version of the game series for you to enjoy wherever you are, even if you are lost in an Island that has no Wi-Fi and you haven’t got your PC. (We do not ship to stranded islands).
D. Original Handmade Drawing.
Our artists will make an original framed handmade drawing (size A5) for you to enjoy. You might even choose who you want making that art piece for you.
E. Limited Edition of the Physical Game Box.
If you like Game Boxes, you will love what we have prepared for you. This reward is available for only a few, and you will soon see why.
F. Explorer’s Journal.
Each one of our adventurer’s has been sailing the ocean with an explorer’s Journal, in it they have not only the game’s manual, but exclusive content, games challenges, art and some peculiar proposals. This Journal takes the experience to a whole new level. So let us present to you, your own printed version of the Explorer’s Journal with exclusive content.
G. Explorer’s Journal Limited Edition.
If the Explorer’s Journal sounds neat, add some originals, sketches, notes and some interesting surprises from our artists to take the experience even further. The adventure gets more interesting each day.
H. Create your own puzzle Challenge.
Are you a puzzle freak? Work with our designers to come up with an original puzzle challenge that will be introduced in the game.
I. Printed Art Book.
Have a printed art book with originals made by our artist and not so artists.
J. The voice of a supporting role.
Be the voice of one of the supporting roles in the story, work hand in hand with our music designer to achieve the best character impersonation possible and experience the sensation of being recognized by others as THE pirate. You may also name your character as long it is a “Piraty” one. (As long as you can provide you own high quality recordings).
K. I heard your voice before…
Be the voice of one of the main characters in the story, this will mean long hours of hard work but there is nothing like being part of the design of a game. (As long as you can provide you own high quality recordings).
L. Someone looks like you.
Your physical resemblance in one of the characters in the story. It doesn’t matter if you are the prettiest person in the world we will manage to fit you into one of our ugliest characters.
M. Be the villain.
We know everyone wants to be the villain sometimes, so here is your chance. Be the one that makes our heroes sweat, suffer and even get stuck in our story. You will have a say in the villains main traits, your resemblance will be embedded in the character and you may even be able to add the characters voice (As long as you can provide you own high quality recordings).
N. Be the villain’s sidekick.
If being the villain is cool, being the sidekick of a villain is even cooler. Be the dorky, funny, kind of awkward sidekick of our villain. Design your own trademark phrase to be known to everyone.
FIRST GOAL. $12.000
If we get funded we will finish the basic version of The Island. Being an adventure game, we decided to divide it into chapters. This will allow us to finish the five basic chapters of the game:
Chapter I: Explorers.
Chapter II: The Captain.
Chapter III: Somewhere out there.
Chapter IV: The Local Natives.
Chapter V: The Settlement.
The game will be available for free for Windows, both in English and Spanish. We will also have the basic version of the explorer’s journal. The game will be determined by the decisions of the player; this will create different experiences depending on the decisions taken.
Stretch Goal I: Upgrade the Explorer’s Journal. $15.000
The explorer’s Journal has been a key element in the maximization of the learning experience. For the last year we have been using the Journal as a way to encourage artistic and literary expression. It’s been vital in achieving a better learning experience and helping the players to acquire the basic concepts. It’s not only a learning tool but a fun experience. This stretch goal will allow us to take the Journal to a whole new level, add content, and improve the design.
Stretch Goal II: Teaching Manual. $17.000
This game has been used in schools as a learning tool. We feel the need of creating a manual for the teachers that might use this game in their classes. This manual will specify the contents and objectives of each challenge. It will also provide the teacher with extra tools and ideas to keep the ball rolling. This tool can be as good as our imagination allows us to be.
Stretch Goal III: A new chapter, The Hero. $22.000
We will design a whole new chapter that’s been our muse all this time. This chapter introduces new game dynamics and learning techniques we want to explore. This chapter isn’t just a new chapter, but a very interesting experiment.
Stretch Goal IV: Original Music $30.000
We do have some music, but in order to have a really amazing soundtrack we need a really good composer. This stretch will allow us to achieve this.
Stretch Goal V: The game in Mandarin. $35.000
If we achieve this goal we would be able to potentially reach more than 28% of the world’s population through their native language and more than half the world’s population through their second language. Yes we want to reach as many people as possible and with your help we can achieve this!
Stretch goal VI: A new Chapter: The Secret. $47.000
Are you asking if we really want to keep exploring new ways of learning? This chapter is the answer. There is not much information we can give regarding this stretch goal because this is still one of our best kept secrets.
Stretch Goal VI: Web support. $60.000
Having web support will allow us to take the game to a whole new level. Having leader boards, challenges, new mini Games and the interaction of our own community will produce better results. This platform will allow us to have real feedback from our player’s performance being able to adapt the challenges and add new content that responds to our player’s needs. The web page will also provide a whole new set of interactions we have thought for you.
Stretch Goal VIII: Multiplayer Mode. $85.000
We want you working together in order to try new challenges. If we get to this point it means we can try cooperative techniques. You will still play the game as an individual but certain challenges will allow you to search for someone out there to work together with the objective of solving the puzzle.
Stretch Goal IX: The Game in Hindi. $92.000
We were serious about going all the way. So here is the proof.
Stretch Goal X: Linux & Mac versions. $150.000
Now we can bring this game to a broader audience and this means more people will be able to play the game.
Stretch Goal XI: Wii U. $300.000
We will take this game to Wii U and show you what we can do with Asymmetric Interaction. The Wii U has still so much to give with the new dynamics it brings, we want to show the gaming community what this can provide.

Risks and challenges
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
We’ve already written the basic plot of chapters 1, 3, 4 and 5. And have most of the graphics and programming done. As we’re a startup we know we have a long way to go, but we’ve been working on this project for three years and we intend to make it come alive.
We’ll be doing weekly uploads of our progress so that everyone can participate in the decisions. We've put a lot of effort into planning to make this possible and set a realistic schedule. We truly believe that with your feedback, together we can make something great. We will be creating a FAQ with answer to the questions you might have, so don’t hesitate to ask, we are here to help.
Our objective is to make the greatest we can create so if in order to achieve this we need to change what we have done so far, so be it. This money will allow us to take this project to a whole new level.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
In the case of our project: The Island - A learning game for everyone, there are some cool and spectacular prices for you to enjoy but the real treat is becoming part of a community that was able to raise the funds needed to create a Free Learning Adventure Game for Kids that can truly make the difference. Our experience with it has shown enough results to feel confident this is truly a great learning tool
The Island in a nutshell: The Island is a Free Interactive Learning Adventure Game in which the players become part of a group of adventurers that go into sea in search of new lands. Through their adventure they will be faced with challenges, problems, decisions they will have to solve in order to progress. Each of these are aimed to produce some type of learning base in the multiple intelligence theory and the Glasgow method. Each decision the player makes affects the outcome of the story.
