K'NOSSOS Chapter I Beta Arrives on New Year's Eve (or Day)!
As December draws to a close so does our self-imposed deadline on delivering our first backer-exclusive reward – K’NOSSOS Chapter I beta access. The software is almost ready, and that “almost” should be made redundant in a matter of hours, after which the backers who are eligible for the reward will receive the download link to the mails they registered on Kickstarter with. In case someone doesn’t receive the mail, please contact us and we will resolve it promptly, though please have heart as we are talking about 31st of December being today and all... :)
Ok, so – what to expect in K’NOSSOS Chapter I Beta?
First off, we have implemented a PDA to help out with gathering clues from computers and various other devices found in the game world. To enable the PDA, you will first have to find the actual item at the onset of the chapter, after which the feature is accessed via Journal panel.
Once new PDA entry is acquired, the PDA button from the Journal panel will jump to this new entry.
From there, you can access the root via the central button, or jump to other entries with the arrow buttons on the sides.
Second, we have implemented a map of the entire Chapter I area which is available from the start, with new locations being unlocked as you visit them.
With the area covered in the Beta being four times the size of the one from Prologue, we figured a feature like this might come in handy.
In addition to the map we have implemented a double click navigation, where double clicking on any navigation point will make the game skip PC’s walk to the exit point and jump straight to the target location. Traversing the game world should be a breeze with these two.
Fourth thing we added is not exactly new as it’s been present since the updated Prologue we put out in August – it’s the bitmap fonts. While this should improve functionality over newer Windows platforms, there is a minor issue we still haven’t addressed – some of the special characters are substituted by a question mark. We are aware of this one, just haven’t addressed it yet. Coming soon on our to-do list.
Fifth “new” in this Beta – we have added detailed close-up views for several items.
To access these, just LOOK AT the items within inventory via right click.
What Didn't Make it into the Beta
Finally, we would like to state what we HAVEN’T done here – there are such things as well, as this is still a WIP. First off, no new SFX are added and any you do hear are carried over from the Prologue. Same with music – we’ve re-used Prologue tracks as the new ones are still being written. We also haven’t gotten around to write new Journal entries, new Hints (but we will provide a video walkthrough to go with this Beta – it should be up today but as it’s the New Year’s Eve today we may be a bit late with that) and basically all the text in Chapter I, while enough to get you through the game, is still in WIP phase. Last but not least, the Reveal All Hotspots feature may show some areas to be a bit off – this one requires some manual fine-tuning and we still haven’t completed it for all the locations.
Chapter I can be completed as we have shown in tests carried out by us and our collaborators over, and over, and over... However, there are probably tons of things crying for our attention out there, and there is a chance of a few stray game-breaking bugs as well – if you happen to stumble upon any of these, please inform us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
