Collection of short comics by Red Eye, Black Eye creator K. Thor Jensen about clouds and cloud phenomena.
I'm K. Thor Jensen. I've been drawing comics professionally for over two decades.
After I finished my last book, Red Eye, Black Eye, other things like having two kids and moving across the country took my attention away from comics for a while. When I started drawing again, the work I produced wasn't hindered by any expectations - I was just producing comic stories from some unexplored place inside me.
As I drew more of them, I started to notice a weird thematic undercurrent of clouds - atmospheric clouds, clouds of gas, clouded perceptions, clouds of information. As I explored these themes, new stories that touched on other aspects of them came to me. It's been invigorating and rewarding to develop these comics totally unconcerned with any commercial considerations.
Cloud Stories is going to be a dense, rewarding book. The material ranges from horror to memoir to slapstick comedy. The style of each piece varies wildly from the one before it. But as I finish these stories, I find they all mesh with each other and illuminate each other.
Cloud Stories will be a 150-180 page softcover graphic novel, 5.5" x 8.5" size, black and white interiors and color covers. It will be finished in July and printed in September. Approximately 15% of the work has seen publication before in various small-press anthologies that you probably don't have a copy of. The rest is all new. About 80 pages are complete at the start of this campaign.
Because I don't think it's fair to ask people to fund something if I'm not confident enough in it to fund it myself, I am putting $2,000 of my own money into the project. The amount from this Kickstarter will pay for the remainder of the cost for printing, shipping and warehousing the completed books.
The project funds are exclusively for the purpose of producing this book and shipping the backer rewards.
If we do manage to exceed these modest goals, any additional funds will be put into improving the book. There are a few stories that would look good in color, so adding a color signature or two to the book is possible.
Here are some preview pages from the book. More will be added as the campaign continues.

The only significant challenge for this book is completing the actual comics pages. I have a weekly planner with goals that need to be met to complete the book on schedule to go to press in September, and so far I am right on target. I will be posting monthly progress updates here after the campaign finishes for transparency as well.
All financial estimates for printing, shipping and warehousing have been completed and quotes are in place from vendors.
All backers who get a copy of the book will have the option of having their copy signed or not signed, their choice.
