Freds bike shop wants to open a friendly space for cyclists to enjoy local beer and wine along with light fare and non-alcoholic refreshments adjacent to the central DSM trail, at the Green Bridge. We look forward to creating a safe and open space for all cyclists to make a pit stop for refreshments and to enjoy the gathering space with other trail users. These funds will cover that cost of permitting & build out with improvements to our retail space to include a small communal space that serves wine and beer, cover some overhead cost while in construction phase and buy needed equipment for new concession area.
Risks and challenges
Some of the challanges we face in creating this space are of course funding, logistics of the project itself and creating a space that is not just another bar on the trail.
We are using the powers of Kickstarter for funding and working with lenders for small business loans that may fill in as we find needs.
We believe by creating an open, well lit, vibrant space that offers just wine and beer along with cold and pre packaged food choices with communal seating, we can create a family friendly space.
Owners, Stephanie Shay and Brad Overholser, both have experience in food service and hospitality. This experience and skill set will ensure our ability to manage and grow this new revenue stream.
We have recently moved the shop to a location that is more conducive to test riding bikes and has cut back on our monthly overhead costs. Through this experience we have worked with light construction and the permitting process for retail operations.
We have started the process to determine the permits necessary and the renovations needed to get our space ready to add Freds Handlebar.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
