Wanted to check in with everybody, and give you an update on where we're at these days. We also wanted to apologize for the delay in rewards. The tote bags should be delivered in the next few days, membership photos are coming in, and prints are being ordered.
It's been a long winter, and thanks to your support and generosity we've been able to get a great deal of work done. We put in a new boiler and hot water heater. We got new meters and replaced our electric. We saved and repaired some bar equipment, and replaced some too. Some of our music equipment and instruments were repaired. We fixed and refinished the floors in the back two rooms, which look fantastic. Last week the bathroom walls were re-plastered and painted. So much progress was made that its hard to list it all...
We're so close, but as many of you know, we're not open yet. The reason for that is that Sandy exposed a major problem in our basement. Truth be told it was likely there for 50 years, but now it needs to be repaired the right way. It will be a huge expense. Possibly as much as 80 thousand dollars. We have been working with our amazing architect, Melissa Ciccetti, and engineers taking surveys, making drawings and filing permits with the city to move forward with the construction.
The Good News! If all goes smoothly, we're hoping to be reopen by the end of June! We're looking forward to seeing all of you who have helped us so much. In The meantime we're throwing a big party at The Bell House in Gowanus on Wednesday, May 1st to begin raising funds for the big fix. It will feature bands that have played at the bar over the years and will range from New Orleans Jazz to Rockabilly, with Country, Jump Blues, Ska and R&B in there too. It's a real fantastic lineup of some of the best musicians in the city and the best friends of Sunny's. While it will be a fundraiser for the bar, we se it as a tribute to everybody who has shared their talent and support over the years. Here's the link:
Hope we see you on May Day, Love from all of us,
