About this project
MALICE: The webseries in a pitch: JUNO meets THE SHINING. The story concerns the Turner family’s supernatural adventures in their late Grandma’s home. Teens Alice Turner (Brittany Martz) and Abbey Turner (Rebekkah Johnson) not only have to endure the trials of adolescence but also have to survive the dangers emanating from the old home. And when family members start disappearing, Alice--the sixteen year-old with an active imagination--must go down the “rabbit hole” and confront a shocking revelation. The show also features Mark Hyde as Dad/Nate Turner and Leanna Chamish as Mom/Jesse Turner. And then of course there’s the creepy landscaper, Jed, played by Matthew Gulbranson.
The Writers Guild of America, West recently hot-listed MALICE on their Guide to the Web’s Most Cutting Edge New Media Content.
Why a web series?: We usually make feature films, but we wanted a way to connect with fans of the genre in a more personal and social way, and the internet and social media outlets provide that forum. We welcome your comments in the unfolding story. You can start by "Liking" us on Facebook.
What we need the money for: Making films are always an expensive endeavor, especially when they are visual effects heavy films. We managed to produce the first half of the first season on our own through ingenuity, begging, borrowing, and good old guerrilla film production. But still we need some help offsetting some of those costs so we can finish this show before our cast scatters to the four winds.
We've shot the first six episodes and a great deal of the second six but much work still remains.
How Kickstarter works: People pledge an amount and choose a reward. At the end of our 30-day Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges for our project meets our $8,000 goal, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and we receive the funds to finish our films. If we don't meet our goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If we exceed our $8,000 goal then the extra funds will be used to make the series even better - so keep pledging! All funds raised will be directly used in the finishing of our webseries.
The Filmmakers:We're a small group of independent filmmakers who love making movies and have been at it for over two decades. It's our full-time job, and every film we have made has received worldwide distribution. We do pretty much everything ourselves, from conception to financing to production to securing distribution.
We are passionate, dedicated, disciplined and absurdly hard-working. Just check out our first 6 episodes to my crew’s epic dedication or check out Phil Cook’s other films (available through Amazon or Netflix). Help us finish Alice’s story. She needs your help. If we are successful in fund raising we hope to have episode seven available for viewing late this July.
Thanks for your support!
