What lead us Here
YNG LLC is a research and development company at its heart. Just like many makers and creators have found, there are quite a few reasons as to why we found a deep interest in 3D printing.
First, it's quite apparent how much of an impact 3D printing can provide in a short period of time when making multiple iterations of a design. Our main reason as to why 3D printing is an invaluable tool is it's potential to improve everyday life by providing tangible, functional parts and/or objects needed by people each and every day. We believe, in the near future, 3D Printing will have a place not just in the household, but among hardware stores and other facilities making parts "Just in time" and custom made for each customer.
When getting into this field we first started off with some of the well known brands of printers and soon realized that the market was full of VERY expensive, non-feature-rich 3D printers or printers that were hard to assemble and calibrate. These printers also required the user to write/edit the firmware and have a basic understanding of how the software and hardware worked together in the unit. We knew this current methodology of 3D printing felt wrong, it felt off...
Like many creators we saw this and knew there had to be a better way! So we set out to create a reasonably priced, feature-rich 3D printer which arrives pre-assembled and calibrated. Reveal3D and Reveal3D GT was the answer. In the time it took to develop a 3D printer that not only met our needs, but the needs of other companies and individuals that we spoke with, we soon realized where we needed to start with our root design. From there we came to the final stages of development of our first two 3D printers that you see below.
The past 2 Years of R&D
The past 2 years of R&D have taught us quite a few things. One of the major points we realized early on is the lack of print surface provided by 3D printing manufacturers. The fact is today's printers simply restrict creators, makers, and designers from having the print space they require to produce larger prints. This forces the user to print smaller pieces of the whole. When we set out to make our printers we looked at the market to see what we could do to improve upon the large printers and make it more feasible for the end user. In doing so we realized that we needed to have a Gantry style printer with a non-moving bed to ensure the part stayed secured and with minimal shock during the printing process. We also selected a gantry system to allow the user to utilize more of the printable area through a print queue and work on other parts while the ones that were complete began to cool off for removal.
Next, we set out to design a heated bed assembly that would run more efficiently. By using separate heat beds instead of 1 large heat bed it not only cuts the initial investment, but also any repairs down the road for the user. In designing the custom controller for the heated beds we realized a new avenue that we opened that we couldn't have done before....
We realized with our separate heated beds we now could have one side of the printer at one materials temperature and the other at a completely different temperature! So, we began prototype testing with PLA and ABS parts. We could duplicate the same part in these two materials at the same time.
Another great use use for Duplication would be if you need to make multiple parts, it now takes half the time for two as it does if they were printed separately. We have an example of this in our prototype gallery time-lapse videos.
Quality & Cost
We designed Reveal3D with strength and rigidity in mind. We started with V-Slot Aluminum Extrusion. It's strong, light-weight, and grooved for large surface area linear motion. From there we went with printed parts for a few reasons. First of which would be the ease of re-design, if need be. Second, we don't have to charge the end user for the tooling cost of Injection Molding, nor do we require a large production run to hit cost. The final reason is the custom-tailored nature of the printer, all the parts can be made to order!
Why Multiple Heated Beds?
The heat beds on Reveal3D can be turned on and off as needed. Just like you wouldn't turn on every burner of a stove if you were making one grilled cheese sandwich, our printer allows the user to select what is needed. Since we have separate heat beds, the user has the option of how and what they would like to print more readily available to them. Whether the user wants a Dual Hotend so they can pre-load 2 different materials and queue those up in our zone/queue printing or to test the same printed part in two materials for a new design. Reveal3D can be set to just the right settings for each material.

The thermal image above shows that prints can be setup to have their temperature ranges to be set for the bed they are being printed on.
One of the questions we have been asked about having separate heated beds is the fact that there is a temperature bleed in between our "cool" area... We have done testing and design to alleviate 98% of that in order to bring the best result to you. (see thermal image below)
Through our testing process, we have learned when a print goes between zones, it helps to lock in the heat and act as an insulator of sorts (as seen in the thermal image above). This allows us to be able to print something small and turn on 1 heated bed, or large prints with multiple beds being on.

Risks and challenges
Just like many other Kickstarter projects, we are liable to face several risks and challenges with our project. Some of the key risks and challenge for us include:
Since each of our printers are fully tested and ran before being sent to the customer to ensure workability it adds a bottleneck to the creation and distribution of our printers to you the customer. However we are working to streamline our testing to make the testing the most effective and efficient to ensure the functionality of the printer for each user.
Supply and Logistics
When moving from prototypes to final production runs there are hurdles that have to be overcome in order to timely produce and deliver the end product to the consumer. In preparing for this we have been working with the companies that provide the raw materials in order to ensure there will be more than enough to take care of early runs, as well as, knowing the lead times based off of order volume. We have also secured multiple shipping resources from a local warehouse to accounts with various shippers to guarantee timely delivery of the printers and other rewards.
As with any product going from prototype to a final product there are hurdles to overcome. Since we have already began testing and laying out our procedures for the production process we have begun to see where we can increase precision and cut some of the production times down.
As with any product that ever has to be shipped, we realize that there are times where it seems like the shipping companies either play with, throw, kick, run over, or drive forks through them.... We are working to make sure that we can get trusted shippers and guarantees as well as insurance on the packages to protect your investments.
For international shipments we are working to see if we can get the duties, tariffs, taxes and other misc charges rolled into the shipping... However some of the countries we have not been able to do that as of yet. As with any company or endeavor the hardest part is always finding or putting together the best team and finding the right people for the task. We have put together a team of passionate, talented and highly motivated people from various walks of life we have been able to join together and make what we feel is an amazing product.

As we continue to grow and as our product continues to grow there will be new leaps and strides that need to be made as well as hurdles to be overcome, by working with us we can overcome them 1 layer at a time!!!
