gStick: Hold it like a pen, draw, sketch, create and mouse on a pad, fits in your pocket, is wireless and works for PC's and Macs.
Hi Kickstarters! Thanks for checking out our project.
UPDATE - JULY 30TH. RE-LAUNCH!!!
We'll notify all backers when we re-launch in a few days : )
This has been an amazing experience thus far with Kickstarter. It does not look like we will make our goal this time, so we will re-launch again in a few days with new pledge levels. We'll have "500 early birds" for $25, a new price structure and only 4 colors: black, red, blue and purple, all for the same price.
Our factory has lowered the amount of gSticks we must order from 1500, down to 1000. Now our new goal will be $45,000.
If we reach our goal, we'll see if there is still an interest for a gStick with Bluetooth.
We will send out an exclusive message to our backers first, right before we launch our 2nd Kickstarter with the gStick.
Thanks for your support!
Here is the gStick carbon fiber "Limited Edition". These will be hand wrapped by RT Designs in Anchorage, Alaska. We will only make 100.

InStash - "there’s nothing more convenient than a dependable mouse for navigating among the Interwebs. That’s why we’re really digging what Gordon Alan Stewart has brought to this digitally ancient piece of tech."
China Tech News - "...have to say the invention of the mouse is a human science and technology an important part in the process. Of course, this mouse shape for decades and no essential changes, which will make many users feel lack of new ideas, so recently, a foreign designer introduced a pen-shaped mouse gStick."

The gStick is a new form factor in mouse technology. It’s a great replacement for a traditional mouse because it’s ergonomic shape is comfortable and allows the user to hold it like a pen. For drawing or painting free-form shapes the movement is more natural than with a traditional mouse.

"It's amazing how natural and intuitive the gStick is to use, compared to a normal mouse. The gStick's ergonomic design lets me move the cursor across the screen with a flick of the wrist!" - Kerby McGhee, Artist, Designer at 8th Design
"After nearly two decades of using a mouse…I am glad to make the switch to a new revolutionary tool. I thought I would have a hard time adjusting to the gStick. I thought it was maybe just a gimmick. No…it is as natural as using a pencil…except I can scroll and select with it! What an incredible invention. I can't wait to "roll in" to work with one! You don't have to be a graphic designer to understand, love, and appreciate the absolute genius of the intuitive gStick. It makes the days of using a "mouse" a new experience! Thank you gStick."
- Andre Horton, Professional Photographer, DreFoto -
"It just makes sense. Very natural to use. Became almost second nature in minutes while playing Minecraft. It will be epic with Starcraft"
- Reeve Byrne, Senior Graphic Designer at RT Designs
"The device takes full advantage of your fingers fine motor skills, skills that have been practiced since grade school as opposed to a traditional mouse that requires you to use your palm. Just pick it up and you're an expert, I would play Minecraft exclusively with the gStick and can't wait to try it with real-time strategy games like Starcraft..."
- Gavin Brown, Head of IT, Bill's Dist.
The gStick mouse.
Who is it for?
Anyone who can write with a pencil and wants a more comfortable and ergonomic computer mouse will enjoy the gStick.
What does it work on?
The gStick is a computer mouse that you hold like a pencil. It works on all Mac, Linux and Windows PC computers. If your computer uses a mouse, the gStick will work on it.
In 2009 I conceived the gStick after trying to sign my signature to an online contract with a traditional mouse. I was very frustrated and I wanted something that worked more accurately, that was inexpensive, and that did not need a stylus pad. I also wanted a better mouse for being creative with Adobe Photoshop and 3D CAD programs such as Google SketchUp.
How did you make it?
After I conceived the idea for the gStick mouse, I did some sketches, went shopping at Home Depot, and bought material for a prototype. I bought a 10-foot stick of ABS pipe and started cutting and building to make the first mock-ups. Then I began my search for manufactures that would also offer full prototype services before production.
When will it be ready?
After 3-years of R&D and prototype testing, we are now ready for tooling, final testing and a production run. This successful Kickstarter campaign will pay for tooling and, 65 days later, our mouse factory will deliver production samples. As soon as we sign-off on these samples, we'll have up to 20,000 units within 45-days.
The production units will be very similar to the prototype in the video but will include a more polished finish and multiple color options. The buttons will be smoother, and will extend about 2-mm more down towards the tip. The scroll wheel will be rounder on the edges to add extra comfort. The production gStick will have 4 flat spots on the edge to prevent it from rolling off your desk.
UPDATE: The production models will also have a removable tip, so that the ball can be cleaned. Furthermore, production units will have more precision while scrolling across the mouse pad.
Production-run 30 days
We will pay for tooling within the first 14-days of August 2013.
Our professional mouse factory can produce 20,000 gSticks per month, after the first 30-day production period.
Production - where?
Our mouse factory partner is located in Shenzen, China and they have over 8-years in PC mouse R&D and production. They are a professional manufacturer of PC peripherals, products covers, PC mouse, USB HUB, USB flash drive, USB kits and other usb accessories. The factory has over 200 highly skilled employees and their own R&D team for project such as the gStick.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
One of my mistakes in the past was not having products inspected before they left the factory This is a huge mistake for any company. We will have every shipment inspected every time before it leaves the factory.
One of the challenges I have seen others face on Kickstarter is keeping up with initial demand if demand is strong. Were we fortunate enough to experience this challenge, we would use a fulfillment service such as Amazon Fulfillment or Shipwire services to help ship out all gSticks coming in from the factory.
If we sold more than 20,000 units during the first month of production, we would immediately tell backers that their order might be delayed a few weeks.
FCC, UL, IC, CE certifications typically take 10-15 days, and we plan to register for these certifications for the USA, Canada, Europe and other countries as soon as we have the final production gStick. If certification is not granted, it would delay final production by two weeks.
We will work hard to overcome any challenges and keep moving forward.
We would immediately inform our backers of delays.
Thank you Kickstarter and all the Kickstarters out there!
Kickstarter is truly amazing for any creative individual with a dream of making something and getting it out to the world!
Please share with any friends that have a Mac, Linux or Windows PC desktop or laptop and use a mouse : )
Windows is a trademark of Microsoft. Apple/ Mac is a trademark of Apple Inc.
The gStick uses 1-AAA battery and will last 3-5 months, depending on daily use.
Yes, the gStick uses a small USB dongle, the tiny receiver can stay in your laptop/ computer.
We are speaking with our mouse factory about the possibility and cost involved in a Bluetooth gStick option. We have to be successful on Kickstarter with Project#1 before they will allow us to have a stretch goal for Bluetooth project #2.
I am working on a cradle/ holder for the gStick that will offer a place to set it down while you type. If we can keep the price low from the factory, we'll include this in the same price and ship it with each gStick.
The gStick is not pressure sensitive at this time. I am working on R&D to make this possible in the future, and will always continue to improve the design, as with any product that we create.
We have recently discovered a solution for a removable tip.
Yesterday I took the gStick apart completely and discovered the solution for a removable tip, so that the ball can be cleaned.
The solution will add 2 small screws at the end, one one each side of the ball cap.
I will share this solution with the factory, and expect we can add this easily into the production models.
Can I use a rechargeable battery? Yes you can.
