Learning how to ask
Many of us are taught as children never to ask for things. Gifts are things that others bestow on us at their own discretion. We learn that only spoiled children ask for things - and we also learn that it isn't a good thing to be spoiled!
And yet . . . as we mature we also learn, if we are lucky, to be able to ask when we need something. We learn that we must communicate with our partners, parents and children. We are enriched by being able to articulate our needs and therfor having our needs met.
But it isn't easy to ask.
It wasn't easy for me to ask the community to support the publication of my new songbook The Peri Smilow Anthology. I had been dreaming of publishing just such a songbook for years. But I simply never had the funds needed to bring such a project to fruition.
As of 2pm (EST) today, June 30th, my dream of publishing a songbook can become a reality thanks to the nearly 150 backers of my Kickstarter Campaign. Today the final dollar commitment came in - we have reached our $12,000 goal and the project WILL BE FUNDED!!
Many have asked me over the course of the past weeks "What happens if you reach your goal in advance of the deadline?". To be honest - I was unwilling until today to even allow myself to dream of that possibility.
However - today I have an answer to that question!
Every dollar raised beyond our original $12,000 budget will be used to publish choral arrangements and Friday Night Live Band arrangements so that my music can be sung by choirs and played by congregational instrumentalists!
Thank you to every one of you - old friends and new, relatives and strangers - who believed in my project enough to sign on and give. Your contributions really matter - and they will facilitate a life dream.
I will keep you posted about our final fundraising achievement! We have 11 days remaining.
My deepest gratitude to all.
